Pollard & Ehrman p.204 & 260; Taylor Book Catalogues p.256] 8vo Robson and Clarke and Mr.Edwards 1789. ***This immense catalogue of 12 859 lots formed the first large scale sale of foreign books in London and led to London being the then centre of the book auction world. James Edwards (1757-1816) was a London bookseller who bought the whole library from Pinelli`s heirs and brought it from Venice to London for auction. Sales were held in 1789 and 1790. The success of this venture led to the Paris d`Illens sale in 1791.

A fine designer’s original scale maquette of a Mobile Exhibition vehicle & trailer by Beford Duple Coachworks, c. 1960s, a commissioned design for a travelling exhibition centre for the Ministry of Technology Production Engineering Research Advisory Service (PERA), the vehicle fitted out as a mobile lecture theatre & cinema, complete with projector and tiered-seating, based on then-current Bedford (Vauxhall Motors) chassis, and with matching 4-wheeled articulated trailer, housing mobile exhibition, having fitted wall-mounted displays and pedestal showcases to interior, principally of cellulose-painted wooden construction with chrome-plated metal fittings, the model is displayed with transparent side and top panels revealing the fully-fitted and detailed interiors to an exacting standard, on both vehicles, representing the pinnacle of the skilled model-makers trade of the period. Shows minor paint loss commensurate with storage, length 30in (76cm) and 23in (59cm) respectively (2)

* R.M.L. Gun. A finely engineered and extremely detailed exhibition standard 1/12th scale model of a 12.5 inch Mk.I R.M.L. Gun, c. 1883, built by A. Walshaw, 1999, with muzzle loading rifled barrel with crane attachment (to lift projectiles and charges) and sights, mounted in trunnions in a riveted metal cradle and in turn mounted on a fully working carriage with traverse, elevation and recoil mechanisms with appropriate gears, chains, hand wheels, crank handles, hydraulic cylinder, foot boards, grab handle and much other fine detailing, finished in black and grey and mounted on a wooden display base raised on four bun feet, 30 x 29.5 ins (76.2 x 75cm), construtors notes and a 1/12th scale of a 15th century bombard, circa 1423, with metal bound barrel and wooden cradle mounted on a wooden display base, 3 x 16 1/4 ins (7.5 x 33.5cm) These two models represent the development of artillery over 460 years, from a stone ball of 278 lbs with a range of 200 yards to an iron shell of 900 lbs fired up to 4 miles. * Water-cooled Cylinder. An extremely fine and detailed 1/12th scale exhibition standard model of a twin water-cooled cylinder M.A.N. 160 BHP Type DM 140 Diesel Engine, c. 1903, built by A. Walshaw, 2001, with cylinders approx. 1.5 bore x 3 inch stroke, mounted on and integrally cast with hollow A frames, tapered connecting rods, with marine type big end bearings, the counter balanced crank shaft running in three main bearings with wick type oil boxes, spoked flywheel, belt pulley, and outboard trunnion block, further details include skewgear and shaft driven camshaft with gear driven governor cam and rocker operated overhead valves, dummy injectors, crosshead and rocker operated compressed air pumps, fuel pumps, inlet and exhaust manifolds and water pipework, finished in brown, black and polished brightwork and mounted on a simulated black and white tiled floor, with laddered platform with handrailings and flywheel pit, and brass plate inscribed “M.A.N. Diesel Engine 160 BHP Type DM140 c. 1903, scale 1/12th full size A. Walshaw 2001”, dimensions 16.5 x 18 inches, (42 x 45.7cm), perspex cover. This compressed air injection engine was the first production engine built by M.A.N. The model works as a gas engine fired by two spark plugs concealed within the injectors.
