Attributed to Vladimir Aleksandrovich Serov (1910-1969, Russian), `Vladimir Lenin Proclaims Soviet Power at the Second All Russia Congress 1917`, oil on canvas, an epic re-working on a large scale of the Congress of the Communist Party in which Serov replaces the figures of Stalin, Dzerzhinsky and Sverdlov with those of unidentified workers. In the 1950s Serov began making copies of the work as demand for such `propaganda` works grew. This is thought to be one of the artist`s own copies, and was brought from the Ukraine to the UK in the early 1990s. The original copy of this work was presented to Mao Tse Tung. Unframed, 117 x 84".
