HADLEY`S FAIENCE WORCESTER RAMS HEAD JARDINIEREAntique John Hadley`s and Sons Faience Worcester English porcelain jardiniere urn having figural ram`s head handle design to each side. Also has hand painted floral design to front and back of body. Raised gilded scroll designs to foot. 19th century. Measures 9" height x 11 1/4" diameter (22.8cm x 28.5cm). Total weight of 1767 grams.
Pullman Table Lamp in `Grecian Urn` style with a square base clearly stamped `CECILIA` on the lowest rim. Lacks shade but in excellent condition and standing 20” tall. Built as a Kitchen Car in 1927 by the Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company It was on the 13th April 1946 part of the set for the press run prior to the re-launch of the Golden Arrow after the War, also on the 21st June 1949 it formed part of the train that carried the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh from Waterloo to Weymouth for their visit to the Channel Islands. Additionally, on 21st November 1950 it was used for the state visit of Queen Juliana & Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, between Dover and Victoria.
Pullman Table Lamp in `Grecian Urn` style with a square base clearly stamped `ADRIAN` on the lowest rim. Lacks shade but in excellent condition and standing 20” tall. Built as a first class kitchen car by Birmingham C&W in October 1925. Originally sold to Wagons Lits and used on the Milan – Cannes service with sister cars `LYDIA` and `IBIS`. Returned to Britain in 1928 and used on both the Southern Railway and the London North Eastern Railway services including `The Golden Arrow`, `The Bournemouth Belle` and `The Yorkshire Pullman`. Withdrawn in August 1966 and cut up at Long Marston in January 1967.
Pullman Table Lamp in `Grecian Urn` style with a square base clearly stamped `MIMOSA` on the lowest rim. Lacks shade but in excellent condition and standing 20” tall. Built as a 12 wheel Kitchen Car by Birmingham C&W in 1914, it became part of the famous Marazion Camping Coach collection in 1962 when withdrawn from service. Fortunately it has been preserved and is currently at the Old Station Hotel, Petworth.
A fine George III silver swing handled fruit basket Richard Mills, London 1771, of oval form, with pierced body and foot, the sides with repoussé swag and tail and classical urn decoration, gadrooned borders, with lattice pierced swing handle, 16in. (40.5cm.) diameter, weight 51oz., erased armorial to well. * Purchased: J. Langlois, Jersey, 6th May 1968, lot 28, hammer price £750. See Illustration.
A fine walnut and floral marquetry longcase clock first quarter of the 18th century, the oak lined case with walnut veneered sides inset with stringing and cross banding, the front profusely decorated with floral marquetry on a background of ebony veneer, the hood with wide overhanging cornice supported on turned fruitwood columns to the front and quartered columns to the rear, all with gilded capitals and bases, the inlay of the long trunk door panel in varicoloured woods displaying birds, flowers in an urn supported by winged mythical figures and leafy foliage, surrounding a glass `bull`s eye` aperture with further birds, flowers and figures below, the base with an ogee moulding above another panel of floral inlay on a walnut plinth, the 12 inch square brass dial with subsidiary seconds dial, square date aperture and finely matted centre, mounted with spandrels of pairs of cherubs supporting crowns, engraved in the Roman chapter ring with minute track, `Clark Preston London`, maker of the movement which strikes on a single bell, 82½in. (209.5cm.) high, the trunk 12¾in. (32.5cm.) wide, plinth moved up and reaffixed to the bottom edge of the floral panel to shorten clock, original base of the case believed to remain behind plinth. A Regency Channel Islands inlaid mahogany six panel press cupboard the flared rosewood banded cornice over a boxwood strung frieze centred by an ivory foliage motif, over two doors with six fielded panels and gilt brass urn escutcheons, enclosing a single oak slide and hanging rail, on swept feet united by a wavy apron with conforming ivory motif, 84¼in. high x 54½in. wide. A Meissen porcelain female figure wearing a decorative dress and a hat, holding a garland of flowers, an urn with a plant in it standing on a tree stump, on a gilt key banded circular base, cross swords mark in underglaze blue and impressed F69, with 31 in red. 6.75in (17cm). Early nineteenth century.
