A pair of Empire or Restauration gilt bronze four light wall appliques in the manner of examples by Pierre-Philippe Thomire, circa 1815, each with a central raised urn socket above three reeded sockets on foliate cast drip pans, on scrolling foliate cast branches issuing from baskets of fruit held aloft by winged herms; themselves each issuing from an acanthus cast cornucopia, with conforming acanthus cast wall plates, 37cm high, 23.5cm wide, 25.5cm protuberance Pierre-Philippe Thomire (1751 ~ 1843) was the outstanding Parisian bronzeur and gilder of the early nineteenth century. He supplied finely chased mounts to leading Parisien ébénistes for furniture, clocks and the Sèvres porcelain factory, and he was much patronised by Napoleon who made him Ciseleur de l'Empereur. His work represents some of the finest examples of what became known as the Empire style, and examples can be found in the Grand Entrance and Marble Hall at Buckingham Palace, the Getty Museum in Los Angeles and many other collections besides See Christie's New York, Treasures of France, 24 October 2012, lot 177 for a very similar pair of wall sconces. Also at the same rooms, Arts of France, 2nd November 2000, lot 128.

A Dutch Diplomat's Sword, the 76.5cm triangular section fullered steel blade bearing traces of etched decoration, the brass hilt with shell guard cast with the coat of arms of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, with foliate cast knuckle bow and baluster pommel, with mother of pearl grip scales, lacks scabbard; an 18th Century Infantry Officer's Sword, with 77.5cm single edge fullered steel blade, the gilt brass stirrup hilt with shell cast boat shape guard, bud quillons and copper wire bound grip with fluted ovoid pommel, lacks scabbard; a 1786 Pattern Infantry Officer's Dress Sword, the 81.5cm single edge fullered steel blade with traces of bluing, engraved and gilt with the Royal coat of arms, crowned GR cypher, martial trophies and Warranted, the back edge signed in gilt Woolley & Deakin, the gilt brass stirrup hilt with double shell guard cast and chased with foliage, with foliate sheathed quillon, silver wire bound grip and foliate sheathed urn finial, with a brass mounted leather scabbard, lacks suspension ring (3)1 - Etching of the blade is very faint. The mother of pearl grip scales are chipped and cracked. 2 - Black patching to blade with nicks to edge and damage to the tip. Minor wear to the gilding. 3 - Pitting to the blade, with tiny nicks to edge. Hilt with wear to the gilding, a break to the top of the knuckle bow and a small break in the silver wire binding. The leather scabbard has a crease to one side half way down. There is no evidence that it has had a suspension ring.
