An unusual rapier, 84.5cm triple fullered flattened diamond section blade pierced with interspaced holes in the central fuller, three-bar part basket hilt, the knuckle plate border engraved, pierced with a Moorish style lattice and bearing a central oval border with a cross centred, this whole panel shrouded with a foliate wreath, the looping thumb ring decorated to match, spherical urn form pommel, spirally fluted wire bound grip with Turk's heads. Possibly Italian and with Papal influences.
A 1796 Pattern Infantry Officer's sword, 81cm blade decorated with scrolling foliage and a stand of arms, highlighted in gilt and on a blued ground, some bright patches, regulation gilt hilt with D-shaped knuckle guard and folding sideguard, urn-shaped pommel, simulated silver wire bound grip, contained in its copper gilt mounted leather scabbard. The hilt retains most of its original gilt with losses to edges, blade blue is dull and with patination thought with a few bright spots.
