A French empire urn mantel clock, the striking drum movement numbered 2480, in a slender urn case flanked by swan neck handles, applied with foliate swag and a ribbon with wreath, the square base on bun feet, 15.75in (40cm) high. Provenance: Sotheby's, Elton John & his London lifestyle, 30 Sept. 2003, Lot 190.
A rare Charles II striking lantern clock of long duration, the 6.5 inch chapter ring signed in the tulip engraved centre John Flint, Mansfield, central rosette, steel hand, pierced and engraved dolphin frets, the movement converted from balance wheel to verge escapement, both trains with large barrels (now with nylon rope), in a posted frame case of typical construction surmounted by the bell and urn finial, c. 1680, 16.5in (42cm) high. Provenance: A private collection in the Cotswolds.
An 8 day mahogany longcase clock, the 12 inch painted dial signed R. Auster & Son, Birmingham, subsidiary seconds and date dials, florally painted spandrels, the four pillar movement in a case of good colour, the hood with swan neck pediment, flanked by fluted columns, with wooden urn finials, 93in (236cm) high.
A Late 18th Century Old Sheffield Plate Soup Tureen and Cover, circa 1780, the oval body with gadrooned border, twin handles and raised on four scroll capped feet, the cover with an urn knop, engraved with a coat of arms, 37cm wide; and A Pair of Old Sheffield Plate Entree Dish Stands, maker's mark an open hand, possibly N Smith & Co, of typical rectangular form with fluted bodies (3) The two coats of arms indicate two marriages of the same woman, Sarah Delaval, sister of John 1st Baron Delaval. Those on the right are as the widow of John Saville, 1st Earl of Mexborough whom she married in 1760. He was created an Earl in 1766 and died in 1778. She remarried secondly, in 1780, the Rev. Sandford Hardcastle, who died 1788. She died 1821. The arms of the second marriage are on the left. This suggests a date between 1780 and 1788, as thereafter she should have put her arms in a lozenge again. Handles of tureen repaired. Otherwise some typical signs of use such as scratches and minor dents otherwise good conditon.
A Pair of George V Candlesticks, Thomas Bradbury & Sons Ltd, Sheffield 1931, in the Neo-Classical style, the square bases rising to square section stems and an urn shaped socket and removable nozzle, decorated in relief to each panel with Neo Classical figures, swags and festoons, 29cm high, loaded Neo-Classicism is based on Greco-Roman art and is primarily the outcome of the discoveries of Herculaneum and Pompeii, both of which were destroyed by Vesuvius in AD79. The style gathered momentum circa 1760-1800 primarily as a result of the works of Robert Adam who was the son William Adam. He was not only an architect but an interior designer and furniture designer. Although out of period, these candlesticks are a good example of the Neo-Classical style. Good crisp decoration, rubbing to faces and minute detail. ALl marks match. Nozzles marked. Overall good.
Two 19th Century Meissen porcelain figures, one of a shepherd boy with a homing pigeon and holding a letter standing next a sheep, the other of a female holding a basket of flowers standing next to an urn (restored), both having underglaze blue crossed swords marks with other incised markings to base, together with a similar Sampson of Paris figure of a seated female holding a hat. Tallest 19cm. (3)
A Chinese cloisonné baluster shaped vase with flared rim decorated with flowers on a turquoise ground raised on a circular foot, 21 cm high, and a Chinese cloisonné vase of urn form decorated with two dragons upon a mottled taupe ground, 12.5 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Blue baluster shaped vase with various knocks and chips, and losses particularly to top rim and top of neck, with quite a lot of the enamelling broken off and missing, generally with some knocks, bumps and scratches, and some pitting to the enamels. The small vase with some general wear and scuffs, some cracking to the enamels around the neck and a few small cracks to enamel near the dragons, some small knocks to foot rim, but overall appears in reasonably good condition.
A circa 1900 gilt brass standard lamp in the Empire taste, the telescopic column converted from oil to electricity, of Corinthian form over an alabaster circular table on scrolling foliate and reeded supports, the base as a blackened urn flanked by three cast goat masks to acanthus decorated goat's feet, approx 130 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Lamp has been tested for safety, but we cannot guarantee in working order. Column is tarnished, some wear to black paint and missing in places, and chipped, some small indented marks to the gallery top, general signs of wear and tear.
