A good quality 19th century inlaid mahogany bureau bookcase with inlaid swan neck pediment and dentil frieze, over satinwood banded doors with fine herringbone stringing matching that of the `wine glass` astragals, the fall inlaid with a classical urn with ram`s head handles within a wreath of mistletoe, over four long graduated drawers with swan neck brass handles and ogee bracket feet, the interior with inset leather and central cupboard, the door with inlay of a basket of fruit, flanked by drawers below pigeonholes and banks of four drawers to either side, all with satinwood fronts, 41½in. (105.5cm.) wide, 96in. (244cm.) high, 21½in. (54.5cm.) deep.
A green onyx and ormolu portico clock garniture late 19th century, the clock with porcelain dial signed `Paris 86 Rue de Rivoli`, with enamelled swags of flowers and Arabic numerals, supported within a portico beneath an urn of gilt bronze flowers and flame urn finials, the break bow fronted base on five gilt toupie feet, the gilt movement striking on a bell, signed `A. Chapus, Paris, A La Gerbe D`Or, Rue de Rivoli, 86`, and numbered 21159, with sun mask pendulum, 18½in. (47cm.) high, together with a pair of matching two branch garnitures on stepped square bases, 13¾in. (35cm.) high. (3)
A Regency mahogany quarter chiming eight day bracket clock circa 1820, the circular white painted dial with Roman numerals and plain twin fusée movement striking the quarters on nine bells, within a rectangular case with brass mounts, the stepped top with gilt brass urn finial, the front with gilt brass mounted panelled spandrels within fluted borders, floral rosette ring handles and pierced gilt brass grilles to sides, on gilt brass ball feet, 20in. (51cm.) high.
A good pair of George II cast silver candlesticks maker`s mark CH, probably Charles Hatfield, London 1738, in the Louis XIV style, the knopped octagonal baluster and turned stems with shell motifs and masks to shoulders, pendant husks and guilloche bands, below foliate urn sconces, one marked with lion passant, the other `0`, terminating in stepped square bases with foliate mask and rococo cartouche corners, the wells with ovolo and foliate bands on a matted ground, the detachable drip pans with conforming decoration, fully marked on bases and with scratch weights, 9¾in. (24.75cm.) high, weight 54.5 tr.oz. (2) * Condition: In good condition overall. Matching marks to base - mark not in Jacksons but appears to be either CH or GH above a pellet and beneath a trefoil, in a `club` shaped reserve. Marks crisp and clear. Lion passant to one sconce partially rubbed. Some rubbing to raised decoration on masks due to polishing, but decoration in good condition overall. Inside of rim on sconces have small notches to match drip pans - one marked with one noth and another three. Onc drip pan has damage to the bottom of the bayonet fitting - it is slightly shortened and the silver is bent over with small splits at the tip. One stem is bent slightly to one side just above the mask knop - there is no damage to the silver. No evidence of any repairs or restoration.
A George III silver bacon serving dish John Schofield, London 1789, rounded rectangular form with domed hinged cover with concave central section rising to dome with urn form finial, elephant head under crown engraved crest to front, the base compartment with gadrooned border, silver cylindrical deposit seated into which is a turned ebony handle of elongated ovoid form, the dish 10 x 6in. (25.4 x 15.3cm.), the handle 7½in. (19.1cm.) long, weight 22.7 tr.oz.
A good pair of George V silver table candlesticks Elkington & Co., London 1913, the tapered oval urn form sconces with removable drip pans on conforming tapered stems to an oval stepped base with engraved crest, 12in. (30.5cm.) high, weight 55.5 tr.oz. (2) * Condition: In good condition. No dents or creases, no splits, no repairs. A few tiny dings to edge of bases but these are not at all unsightly. Both stems are straight.
A pair of Edwardian silver table candlesticks James Dixon & Sons, Sheffield 1905, the octagonal waisted urn sconces on tapered octagonal stems to stepped square canted bases, impressed reg. design mark to base, loaded, 10¼in. (26cm.) high, gross weight 35.5 tr.oz. (2) * Condition: Drip trays not removable. A few minute dings to bases. One lacks baize from beneath base, the other worn. Otherwise in good condition, with no other damage or repairs.
A pair of silver table candlesticks William Hutton & Sons, London, date mark rubbed, early 20th century, in the Adam taste, the fluted urn socles on conforming square tapered columns to loaded square bases, 6¾in. (17.2cm.) high, gross weight 25.5 tr.oz. (2) * Condition: Marks rubbed - maker`s mark legible. A few small dents to sconce on one stick, and dings to two corners of base. The other has one small dent to sconce and a dent to one corner of base. Stems straight. Drip pans stuck in sconces with wax.
An onyx and champlevé enamel lamp early 20th century, urn shaped body with mask and foliate handles to either side, waisted enamel collar, base is circular enamel roundel surmounted on a square onyx plinth with canted champlevé panels, electric conversion on domed supports, 18in. (45.8cm.) high with conversion, 10½in. (26.7cm.) high unconverted.

§ Rex John Whistler (British, 1904-1944) Battle scene pencil on buff paper 56 x 78cm (22 x 30in) Provenance: Dalham Hall, Newmarket, Suffolk. Literature: The present drawing is found referenced in Laurence Whistler`s `The Laughter and the Urn, The Life Of Rex Whistler` (pub. 1985, Weidenfeld & Nicolson, p. 20) where it is stated that Whistler drew the picture in 1915 when he was ten years old. We are grateful to Hugh Cecil for his assistance with the catalogue entry. Pinholes to every corner, and foxing in each corner. Under glass. Some dirt under the glass. A little crinkling of the paper along the top edge.
