A George III inlaid mahogany and simulated rosewood longcase clock by Nicholas Himes of Helston, with eight day striking movement and rhyme to the arch, the case with fluted quarter column corners and raised on ogee bracket feet. Height 232 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: We would have thought this clock is circa 1790. The clock hood is in generally good condition with no significant damage issues. It could do with a clean and polish. The trunk door is not warped. The brass lock escutcheon is probably original as are the hinges and door knob. The satinwood urn to the centre of the door has a section of veneer in the centre which is slightly lifting but there are no losses. The corner spandrels are in good condition. The clock base is also in good condition with no warping to the front panel. The feet would appear to be original and in generally good condition. The case, as stated, would benefit from a clean. We have the weights and pendulum and the clock is currently ticking away and striking as it should. The silvered brass dial is in generally good order although a little tarnished and dirty in places. In our opinion the clock is not a marriage. There is no sign of any woodworm.
A pair of 19th century fire clay garden urns, each on plinth. Height 100 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Both bases are a similar size. Height 50 cm, width between 33 and 34 cm. The urns are not in particularly good condition but are serviceable. Both have substantial losses to the top rims. The left hand urn is also completely detached at the join above the mouldings on the centre knop and also at the narrow point of the stem. There are numerous small losses around these breaks and various firing cracks also. The plinth base is in generally good condition with only minor surface scratches and nibbles. The second urn is more secure. There is no break around the bottom knop. There are stress fractures to the base in two places. The pedestal base itself is in generally good condition.
A Georgian brass and steel fire basket. Width 75 cm. CONDITION REPORT: We would have thought that this lot is circa 1830 but it is difficult to tell. The brasswork to the front is in structurally good condition. The right hand urn and cover finial is slightly bent. The bottom two spars to the front of the grate are cracked. The shaped interior of the piece appears to be in reasonable condition but there are cut outs which we cannot explain and the centre grate bottom is missing. The rear of the piece appears to be in good order.
