Full title: Flemish school, monogrammed V.H.: A bouquet of flowers in an urn, oil on canvas, 18th C.Description: 108 x 90 cm Monogrammed centrally under the table top (V.H.F. or rather V.H.f (ecit)?) and at the reverse (peint par Van Hoeck - Anvers). However, most probably the V.H. is referring to Jacobus Melchior Van Herck (act. 1698-1735), in whose oeuvre the painting perfectly fits.

Special Gift from Marie Antoinette ?Pendule et Flambeaux? ÿ An extremely important exquisite Louis XVI French ormolu Mantle Clock, by Regnault of Paris,ÿ together with matching pair of Candlesticks, all contained in original leather covered travelling case. This attractive heavy ormolu Mantle Clock is of upright rectangular form, the top decorated with trophy and scrolls, over a circular white convex enamel dial with Roman numerals, outside count wheel striking on a steel bell, the pierced front and sides chased with flowers, leaves and scrolls and on a chased moulded platform, over a rectangular base with inverted centre panel chased with vines and leaves, on four adjustable circular feet, approx. 33cms high (13?); the Candlesticks with leaf cast urn sockets, on a tapering reeded column and circular leaf cast and fluted base, 8 1/2" (21cms).ÿ Provenance ÿOn May 16th 1770, Louis, Duc de Berry, married Archduchess Maria Antonia of Austria. He was 15, she was 14, and Louis becameÿking in 1774. Maria Therese de Barmont was a lady-in-waiting to Marie Antoinette and received the clock as a gift from her. She was only 13 at the time of wedding. Marie Therese de Barmont (1757 ? 1849) married in 1778, Charles de Pleurre, Marquis de Pleurre (1737 ? 1810). Their daughter, Adelaide (1797 ? 1884), married Andre Etienne d?Audebard de Ferussac (1786 ? 1836). Their son Amedee (1817 ? 1897) married Alice Thorn, daughter of Colonel Herman Thorn of New York in 1845. Their daughter Alice then married George Patrick Lattin Mansfield of Morristown Lattin, Naas, Co. Kildare in 1878. From whence by direct descent to the present owner. Biographical Notes: 1.ÿÿÿÿÿÿ Claude Charles de Pleurre, Marquis de Pleurre was born in 1737 at Chateau de Pleurre. He was a Marechal de Camp in the Kings Army, and later a French Politician. 2.ÿÿÿÿÿÿ Andree Etienne d?Audebard de Ferussac (1786 ? 1836) was a renowned French Naturalist, Botanist specialising in molluscs, malacology, and was the author of several important works on the subjects. He was also a well-known politician. 3.ÿÿÿÿÿÿ Colonel Herman Thorn, known as ?The Forgotten American Prince,? played a significant role in establishing America?s social identity in the early part of the 19th Century, through his patronage of writers, artists, and politicians. He has been lauded as the most colourful character of his generation.

A pair of Regency bronze and gilt bronze Candlesticks, each with an urn socket above hanging vine leaves on three leaf cast tapering supports with paw feet, on square base, 11 1/2" (29cms); together with a pair of gilt brass and white marble Candelabra, one with two rustic arms supporting two urn sockets, the other lacking arms, 13 1/2" (34cms); together with five various pieces of Benares ware. FREE TRADE A pair of Minton two-handled vases, c.1835, the urn-shaped bodies well painted with panels of flowers and fruits in the manner of Thomas Steele, between moulded leaf bands reserved on a pale peach ground, raised on cylindrical bases inscribed in black for free trade, unfettered commerce and unity of all nations, upon integral square plinths, restorations, 35cm. (2) Following the conclusion of the Napoleonic Wars, the Corn Laws introduced tariffs and trade restrictions in 1815 in an effort to reduce money flowing out of the country. Between 1830 and 1841, with the Whigs largely in power, pressure was constantly being brought to bear for their repeal. Provenance: with Mercury Antiques, October 1995.
A composition stoneware garden figure, plumbed for a fountain, female figure with urn standing on a mythical sea creature. Height 141 cm, width 55 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: The fountain is in generally good condition. There are some minor nibbles and losses around the extremities but no significant problems. The square base has bottom edge nibbles and there is the odd stress fracture evident to the composition in places but no movement and nothing is in danger of disintegrating or detaching. Clearly the statue has been outside and is stained and weathered.
A pair of 19th century terracotta garden urns, each raised on a stepped plinth, one stamped to base Gillmead. Height 98 cm, diameter 55 cm (see illustration). CONDITION REPORT: Both urns have numerous chips and small losses. Both urn tops are slightly unstable when rocked but sit flat and are not in danger of detaching. The metal rod that holds the urn top to the stand is rusted and no longer tight. There is a significant loss to the corner of the base of one urn and the square stepped base beneath has numerous small chips, nibbles and flaking paint etc. This is the urn that is marked with the makers name. The accompanying urn is still tight on the base. This urn has a 2 cm chip to the rim and various other nibbles. The stand is in similar condition to the other and has no significant issues other than the scuffs, scratches and marks already mentioned.

A FRENCH GOLD AND ENAMELED CUT CORNERED RECTANGULAR SNUFF BOXBy Christian Petschler, the central panels with engine turned decoration, the blue enameled borders decorated with floral and foliate sprays and with urn form motifs. Detailed ABATE. Size 8.5cm x 5.5cm x 1.8cm, gross weight 144 gms.Condition Report: There are one or two tiny marks to the enamel, visible under strong magnification, these do not go down to the gold. There is one tiny scuff mark to one corner. The hinge closes nice and tightly. Overall lovely quality and good condition.
