Glasgow - A rare Scottish provincial blind casterJames Glen, marked IG, Glasgow town mark, IG, S, the body of baluster form with original engraved initial, raised on a short stem and spreading foot, the pull off cover with spiralled gadrooning with intertwined engraved banding and urn finialHeight: 15.5cm, weight: 7.05ozNotes:Of a typical form this caster is unusual in its form as a 'blind' caster. Taking its name from the un-pierced nature of the domed cover these casters are rarely found in Scottish silver. This is not surprising considering that casters were not necessarily commissioned in sets of three or more, and more usually found surviving in pairs (although could obviously have been split). Although more perhaps exist but not recorded within group listings or had originally not been fully catalogued with enough details to determine blind or otherwise, it is interesting to note that 'The Compendium of Scottish Silver' lists only five examples between 1706 and 1770.

A Late 18th Century Blond Tortoiseshell Fan, the monture carved, pierced and gilded, the gorge in particular with figures the double paper leaf seemingly glazed on the verso. The recto, in chinoiserie style, is painted with several figures wearing simple robes, some appearing to bring refreshments. A lively dog accompanies the figure to the right, approaching a table which is decorated with blue and white panels and is placed next to an enormous lidded urn, with gold detail and a pink painted pagoda and foliage painted on otherwise blue and white porcelain. The verso is decorated with simple flowers. Guard length 10.5 inches or 26.5cm Purchased at Christie's on May 17th 1979 for £150.00Some restoration to the leaf seen from the verso and more folds require attention. Some foxing and soiling mainly on the verso.

A large pair of terracotta garden urns, 82cm H, with a smaller urn, 56cm H (at fault) CONDITION REPORT: The large urns with general discolouration from being in the garden. One with a chip to the rim, another with an oval chip to the body and an old and large section of ships to the base. Other little nibbles here and there.

A pair of large 19th Century Sheffield plate wine coolers of urn form with twin handles, part reeded bodies, raised on stepped circular foot, each bearing engraved armorial, approx 25 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Both wine coolers have numerous areas of tarnishing and wear to the silver plate. Both have light surface scratches, some areas of pitting to both, some small dents and knocks to both pieces. Some staining and accretions to both. Also polish residue left on the handles and on the inside of the removable collars on both. General wear and tear commensurate with age and use. See photos for details.
