Catalogue note A letter sent to the vendors by Christopher Gilbert, while Curator at the Temple Newsam Museum, reads: 'Many of your treasures would earn a conspicuous place at Temple Newsam, particularly the mahogany vase stands which glow in my memory. I cannot think there are a more desirable pair anywhere.'

A 19th century Wedgwood black basalt classical urn 40cm high (lacking handle)Collection of dust and dirt throughout. Loss of the single handle - break points on the top of the figures shoulder and the base where they are sat - see images. Markings and scratches to the exterior and wear to the side. Top and base are slightly loose with cracking on the base interior. This is not visible from the exterior. Loss of the handle which is not provided.

C.V.O. Deceased, Halton House Tring'. 1918. Listed as 'A small vase and cover carved in striated onyx mounted with gold feet £5.0.0.' Catalogue Note The decoration and shape recalls the works in agate by the Miseroni Family the important jewellers and gemcutters from Milan. They specialised in carving rock crystal and hardstones and gained international recognition in the mid-16th century. Imperial patronage from the Hapsburgs prompted the re-establishment in 1588 of the workshop to Prague, where it flourshed until 1684. Girolamo and his brother Gasparo entered the service of Cosimo I de' Medici. Giulio worked in Spain from 1582 and Ottavio worked from 1588 in the court of Rudolf II in Prague and was succeeded by his son Dionysio who became Imperial Treasure Warden in the Prague Castle. C.V.O. Deceased, Halton House Tring', 1918. Listed as two pairs, described as 'A pair of Louis XVI wall lights, chased with oak branches and the branches designed as hunting horns, £150.0.0.' Catalogue Note This set of four wall appliques are based on the model by the bronziers Edme-Jean Gallien (1720-1797) and Pierre Bureaux (b. 1728). The design was very popular during the Empire period and a similar set of four wall lights was supplied by Claude Galle for the Salon de Compagnie du Petit Trianon on the 23rd December 1809 (see D. Ledoux-Lebard, Le Petit Trianon, p.98). Other sets of wall lights can be found at various chateaux and palaces, including: Bagatelle, Pavlosk, Saint-Hubert and Le Raincy. For recent sale comparisons, see Sotheby's Paris, 20th April 2012, lot 173 for a very closely related set of four which sold for EUR 264,750, also Christie's Paris, 23rd November 2021, lot 117 for a pair which fetched EUR 87,500.

A late 19th Century Meissen figure group as a man and woman with seated child arranging a floral swag upon a two handled urn on a rocky base after the original model by M V Acier and J C Schönheit, bears blue underglazed cross swords mark and incised number "D92" and impressed numbers "51.55" 23 cm high together with a Meissen onion pattern kettle or tea pot stand in blue and white, bears blue cross swords underglazed mark struck through 12 cm square CONDITION REPORTS Cover of urn - damaged and repaired - see images. Floral swags basically appear sound though with damage and loss to several of the leaves / petals to the extremities. Handles of the basket damaged and missing. His hat with chip to the front. Damage to the leaves to the exterior of the basket. Damage and loss to the bottom right hand corner of his jacket and chip to the rear base of his jacket. Child's left fore finger with damage and loss. Under UV light there appears to be no further restoration apart from the lid of the urn. See images for further detail.
A pair of 19th Century Meissen figures in 18th Century dress, she stood behind a large ewer with hat full of fruit, he beside a similar ewer, a bag over his shoulder, she with blue crossed swords mark, he with blue cross swords mark and incised No. "1774" and impressed numbers "20-120", 17 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Figure of gentleman with two fingers missing and further damage to the right hand and flowers. Chips to his satchel to both sides of the cover. Head has been broken off and repaired. Figure of lady with left fore finger missing, her right sleeve very damaged with loss. The urn has a firing crack to the waisted pedestal, the fruit in her hat has damage to the leaves and loss. See images for further detail and marks. He has incised No. "1774" and impressed No. "120", etc. She just with blue crossed swords mark and handwritten No. "70". See image for further detail. Under UV light - no sign of restoration apart from his neck.

A collection of silver wares to include a pair of four slice toast racks, two pairs of silver salts, one pair with embossed floral decoration, a silver pepper in the Art Deco taste and a small silver bowl with pie-crust style edge, initialled "NHFR" and a further silver pepper with blue glass liner and a silver cigarette box, weighable silver approx 10 oz CONDITION REPORTS Pieces all hallmarked. Pair of toast racks - a pair in design and size though hallmarks different and by different makers. Both with several areas of denting requiring attention. Cylindrical pepper appears in good condition. Footed bowl bearing initials "NHFR" and No'd to base "3839" with signs of wear/surface scratching throughout conducive with age and use. Urn shaped pepper appears basically sound. Pair of salts with flared rims appear basically sound though feet may be a little squashed. Cauldron shaped salts electro-plated - see marks. Cigarette box bearing initials to lid "ELJ" - whilst basically sound, has damage to corners and split to rear right corner. Leather base with wear and scuffing - see images for further detail
