(LA66/1) A matched pair of kitchen peppers, one probably by James Crichton, the other maker's mark unclear, Edinburgh 1888 and 1889, of cylindrical form with reeded rim and foot rim, the C-scroll handle similarly decorated, the domed pull-off covers pierced and with urn finials, the bodies with engraved crest of a dragon facing left inscribed GOD SEND GRACE (2) 9cm high, 2oz each the crest and motto are that of the Crichton family
A 19th Century French eight strike mantle clock in the style of Sevres circular dial with Roman numerals and painted cherub within cloisonne border flanked by painted cherub detailed columns and panel below cloisonne caddy top with urn finial with a pair of conforming urns decorated with Classical maidens, signed Collot., 42cm high.
A French gilt bronze and ivory mounted ink stand, circa 1880, probably by Ferdinand Duvinage, the central urn shaped well with hinged cover, with inset fruitwood foliate marquetry, above twin ram's heads, a vacant escutcheon with laurel sprigs at the front, the cartouche shaped base with twin recesses with hinged covers with (later replaced) ivorine veneers, on six toupie feet, 13cm high, 25cm wide In 1867, the Maison Alphonse Giroux (founded 1799), was taken over by Duvinage and Harinkouck. From 1870 until his death, the firm was under sole direction of Ferdinand Duvinage and was renowned for its exotic and Japonisqe creations in the decorative arts. The type of highly decorative marquetry featured on the present lot was patented in 1877 and was probably first shown at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1878.
A painted metal six light chandelier in the Regency style, first quarter 20th century, in the manner of a colza oil chandelier, with foliate cast arms with waisted glass shades, interspersed with anthemia around the dished body, a knopped urn with flambeau finial above, suspended below the ceiling fitment by six chains, approximately 113cm high, 91cm wide, (with gilt finish beneath the paint)

Provenance: Bought from Dennis Wray Antiques, Sloane Street, 1970.
A George III mahogany longcase clock, the 8 day five pillar movement striking on a bell, to a 12in brass arched dial with a silvered chapter ring and subsidiary seconds dial to a pierced aperture, the centre engraved and urn and bird inscribed George Cooper, London, the arch with a subsidiary strike silent dial, the pagoda hood with glazed panel and later urn finials to turned brass inset stop fluted columns, the arched trunk door flanked by conforming columns, the base on a plinth, 93.5in (237.5cm) h.
