A late 18th century Derbyshire Blue John neo-classical pedestal ovoid urn attributed to Richard Brown of Derby everted rim domed cover ball finial stepped square Ashford marble base 26cm high c.1790 From its distinct neo-classical shape its obvious quality and the absence of ormolu this piece can probably be attributed to Richard Brown of Derby (1736-1816) trading as Brown Son & Maw probably from the period just prior to his move from the ÒOld ShopÓ abutting the north end of the Old Silk Mill to his purpose-built marble works in Kings Street in 1801-02. The works were subsequently rebuilt and are currently under threat of demolition
