A George III silver wine ewer, maker's mark worn, London, 1776: of neoclassical outline, having a domed hinged lid with urn finial, scroll handle and raised on a square base, 30.5cm high, together with a near matching Edwardian wine ewer, maker SEH, London, 1909, with a weighted square base, 30.5cm high, weighable silver approx 902gms, 29.00ozs.
A gilt-metal and porcelain French mantel clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the movement maker Vincenti et Cie and numbered 2354, the pink porcelain dial with gilt Roman numerals and decorated with painted flowers, with gilt-brass spade hands, the shaped gilt-metal case of waisted form and having applied mounts depicting musical instruments and flora with further decorative pink porcelain oval plaques all surmounted by an urn, height 39cm.Biography Jean Vincenti started his clockmaking workshops before 1823 in Montbeliard, France but went bankrupt a year later, whereupon the clock manufacturer Roux took on the management on his behalf, making the roulant blancs (rough movements) for clockmakers to finish and use under the name Vincenti et Cie. Vincenti died in 1834.
Samuel Marti, Paris, a substantial black slate and marble mantle clock: the eight-day duration movement striking the hours and half-hours on a bell with an outside countwheel, the backplate stamped with the trademark of the movement maker Samuel Marti, the two-piece black marble dial having raised gilt Roman numerals and a visible dead-beat escapement to the centre, with gilt-brass moon hands, the black slate clock with variegated honey marble inset panels and mouldings, with matching spheres to the sides, scroll mounts and surmounted by a large urn, height 47cm.Biography Samuel Marti was one of the prolific French makers of the 1800s and was known to be working circa 1860 at Le Pays de Montbeliard, Paris making roulant blancs. Along with Japy frères and Roux they set up a business in 1863 to market their movements to such firms as L'Epee, with their address at Rue Vieille-du-Temple from 1870.
