A group of 19th Century French gilt metal candlesticks, both converted to electricity, the first a two branch candelabrum, the canted plinth base rising to a spreading circular base, adorned with laurel branches intertwining around a central column adorned with ribbon swag and terminating at urn candle holder 23cms high, together with another alabaster and gilt metal candlestick with ram head terminals, 19.5cms.
An early Victorian mahogany bowfront stick barometer, the silvered register inscribed 'Arnold & Dent London', with a vernier scale, with a turned bone adjuster and a thermometer above an ebonized urn cistern cover, c.1840, 96cm high. Provenance: The Property of the Rt. Hon. Sir Mathew Thorpe.
λ A George III satinwood secretaire bookcase in the manner of Mayhew & Ince, with amaranth and rosewood banding and stringing, the later swan neck carved cornice centred with a flaming urn with leaf scrolls and paterae above a Greek key and pendant frieze and a pair of astragal glazed doors enclosing two shelves, the base with a deep secretaire drawer the front simulating two drawers, with a later leather lined writing surface and an arrangement of pigeon holes and drawers with ivory handles, above three long drawers and swept French bracket feet, 262cm high, 115.4cm wide, 57.3cm deep. Provenance: By family tradition acquired from Apter Fredericks, London in the late 1960s by Mrs Dorothy Francis at 'Avalon', Shepton Mallet. Thence by descent at Ray Mill House, Chippenham, Wiltshire, 1975-1995, after which with the same owner at his current address.
A Victorian walnut and floral marquetry serpentine credenza, with gilt brass mounts, the central cupboard inlaid with an urn of flowers on an ebonized ground, enclosing a plush lined interior with a shelf, flanked by a pair of serpentine glazed doors with conforming interiors, 111cm high, 192.7cm wide, 45.5cm deep.
