A Georgian iron fire basket, with urn shaped finials and scroll end supports, height 51cm, width 64cm, depth 31cm.Condition report: The grate is useable. There is considerable rust, so cosmetically the metal will still be pitted if cleaned. The last four images show the brackets that support the floor of the grate. This is currently secure but two brackets are more degraded than the others. These are probably the only real areas of concern and may need attention if the grate is put into regular use.

WW2 Nazi Germany D.L.V. 1st pattern dagger & scabbard by Gebruder Heller of Marienthal. Features nickel urn shaped pommel and winged guard with rotating swastika panels, slight wear to the swastikas. Moroccan blue leather grip with period replacement wrap and small blued wooden section. Bright repointed 16.2cm long maker marked and numbered blade, retaining leather washer. Blade fits well into the Moroccan leather scabbard, showing light wear but 2 small sections where the wood underneath has been exposed and then blued. Retains suspension ring & hanger, with slightly dented ball end. Scarce dagger.

A Gansu style jar or urn, decorated in the Yangshao phase style with bold circular motifs containing a variety of criss-cross, linear and dot motifs surrounded by circular and curvilinear designs, with a fitted metal stand. Height of urn without stand, 45 cm [2]Provenance: From a Private UK Collection. Purchased from Grosvenor Oriental Porcelain and Works of Art, Portobello Road, London W11 on 8th October 1997. Please note that this lot is undated as there is no Oxford Authentication Ltd. Test for it. However, this genre and its origins along the upper Wei River, and other locations, are discussed with a number of detailed line drawings in Chapter 1, Neolithic Art, by William Watson in 'The Arts of China to AD 900' [Yale University Press/Pelican History of Art]. Professor Watson's work also illustrates photographs of similar vessels, that include: a Banshan urn [dated to 2000BC/Museum of Far Eastern Antiquities, Stockholm], and a Machang urn [dated to Mid-late Second Millenium BC/Museum of Asian Art, San Francisco]. For an example in the British Museum, compare BM 1929.0613.1 from Gansu Province, donated to the Museum by the Stockholm Ostasiatiska Samlingama..

AN 18TH CENTURY CAPTURED FRENCH NAVAL SWORD OF CAPITAINE MODENE, 80cm triangular section incurved blade decorated with scrolling foliage highlighted in gilt, characteristic hilt with D-shaped knuckle guard, urn pommel and wire bound grip with Turk's heads, the oval guard decorated with vines, flowers and faceted studs and engraved in script The sword of Capitaine Modene of the French Frigate L'oiseau taken 17th October 1762. The Frigate L'oiseau was captured by HMS Brune, a 30-gun frigate. Ironically HMS Brune was originally a French ship that had been captured by the British ships Venus and Juno earlier in the 7 Years War and then commissioned into service with the Royal Navy where she later captured a further French ship the Renard. The Captain of the Brune was George Anthony Tonyn and this lot is accompanied by a 22-bore brass barrelled flintlock holster pistol by Stanton, the escutcheon on the back of the wrist engraved with the initials GAT. Stanton is listed as a maker of brass barrelled holster pistols 1750-1778. (2)
A 1796 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICER'S SWORD TO LT GENERAL SIR JOHN CRADDOCK, 81cm fullered blade decorated with stands of arms, the Royal Arms, crowned GR cypher and a figure of Britannia, the whole highlighted in gilt and set upon a blued ground, fading and wear, regulation gilt hilt with folding side guard, D-shaped knuckle guard, urn shaped pommel and silver wire bound grip, contained in its engraved gilt mounted leather scabbard, the locket engraved with a maker's panel WRIGHT Sword Cutler No. 72 St James's Strt London, the opposing side decorated with the crest of Sir John Cradock, the scabbard leather incised with geometric designs and stamped with the Prince of Wales Feathers.
