A George III gold, diamond set and white enamelled mourning ring, designed as a twin handled lidded urn, with white enamelled banded decoration and otherwise mounted with cushion shaped diamonds, the top folding down to reveal a locket compartment to the back, detailed within the shank, Henry Neve Ob 12.June 1768 aet; 18, ring size K, gross weight 3.3 gms. A Victorian white painted cast iron urn or fountain attributed to Andrew Handyside Foundry. The upper socle cast with the portrait heads of 'Milton, Shakespere, Scott, Stephenson, Watt, Wellington, Nelson' and Peel the underside of the basin cast with interlaced strap-work and foliate ornament set on a chamfered base, 111cm high x 125cm diameter. Illustrated Provenance: this model appears as drawing No27 in the 1874 catalogue of Andrew Handyside. Andrew Handyside acquired the firm in 1848, formerly owned by Weatherhead and Glover 1818-1843; thence Thomas Wright 1843-1848. He expanded the production to cover architectural, engineering and decorative wares such as garden vases and fountains.
A Royal Crown Derby twin handled pedestal urn vase Having hand-painted and gilt decoration, depicting sunflowers and foliate, printed factory marks to base, height 24cm CONDITION REPORT: Very light wear to gilt and a couple of sunflower centres, but good condition, no chips, cracks or restoration.
BRADMAN DON: (1908-2001) Australian Cricketer. An interesting T.L.S., Don Bradman, one page, 8vo, n.p., 17th July 1985, to Mr. Haigh. Bradman states that he has been pleased to sign various items for his correspondent and continues 'With regard to the innings I played in Yorkshire, I enclose a list. (no longer present) I have included Scarborough where we played Festival Matches because I believe it to be within the County.' Bradman further remarks 'Whilst pleased to give you that information I'm afraid it would be better if I did not give you my views on Jardine. They are not so pleasant'. Together with a colour 4 x 6 postcard photograph of the famous Urn containing the ashes of a bail, with its embroidered velvet bag, as presented by the English cricket team to the Australians in 1882-83, issued for the Centenary of the Ashes 1882-1982, signed by Bradman in blue ink with his name alone to a clear area of the image. VG to EX, 2 Douglas Jardine (1900-1958) English Cricketer, Captain of the England team during the 1932-33 Ashes tour of Australia when England controversially employed 'Bodyline' tactics against the Australian batsmen, including Bradman.
