A pair of Victorian cast iron urn finials attributed to the Handyside Foundry, circa 1875, of amphora form, the flared and foliate cast necks above lobed bodies relief cast with fruiting vine, with twin stylied scroll handles, the waisted socles on square section bases, later drilled for electricity, 78cm high overall, 61cm excluding later elements PROVENANCE: Christie's Ashurst, 27 September 2004, lot 243 CATALOGUE NOTE: A vase basically identical to the present design appears in the Handyside Foundry’s 1874 catalogue, page 60. The design is illustrated in John PS Davis, Antique Garden Ornament, Antique Collectors’ Club, 1991, p. 249. The large and prolific Derby-based Britannia Iron Works, owned by Scotsman Andrew Handyside, produced a wide range of objects, from reproduction antique vases to railway bridges. They are probably best known for the vast cast iron National Agricultural Hall in London, now known as Olympia.

A Louis XVI style white marble and gilt-bronze garniture de cheminee, the portico-style clock with drum movement, painted enamel Arabic dial and urn surmount, the pair of candelabra of urn form with twin acanthus-wrapped branches on tapered pedestals and square plinth bases, H 26cm W 17.5cm (clock)
Stag gripped Stiletto commando dagger and leather sheath. Knife features a Scottish stag grip, stacked polished leather and brass upper and lower supports, with polished steel urn shaped pommel and shaped brass cross guard. 15.5 cm long polished steel blade, with stiletto double edge blade and maker mark for J. Nowill and Sons, Sheffield, England. Black leather sheath, which retains the snap back grip holder and riveted seam assembly. Light use overall.
1796 pattern British Army light infantry officer’s sword and scabbard by Runkel of Solingen. Wire strung grip solid with worn gilt wash hilt fittings, urn shaped pommel and D’ shaped hilt guard, partially folding half circle langet, guard with floral designs to underside and to end of quillon, folding lock not locking. Single edged blade, G.R.III crowned cypher, the reverse with Royal Arms. Blade with makers name of J. J. Runkel of Solingen to blade ricasso spine, with straight blade bluing and gilding very faded, etching also worn. Overall measures 95cm.
Nazi Germany D.L.V. 1st pattern dagger and scabbard by Gebr Heller Marienthal. Features nickel urn shaped pommel & winged guard numbered 542 with rotating swastika panels, with dark blue brown leather grip. Excellent condition 17.5 cm long maker marked and numbered ‘164’ blade, retaining leather washer. Blade fits well into the nickel and Moroccan leather scabbard, showing light wear overall, retaining suspension ring & hanger, with slightly dented ball end. Good unit stamps to throat, including swastika eagle propeller. Scarce 1st type dagger. Scarce.

Wire strung grip solid with worn gilt wash hilt fittings, urn shaped pommel and D’ shaped hilt guard, partially folding half circle langet, folding lock not locking, guard with floral designs to underside and to end of quillon includes officer’s name etched to bottom. Single edged blade, etching visible but worn, blade straight, no visible makers marks. Leather scabbard with worn brass and gilded fittings, scabbard bottom metal mount taped on, with damage to upper leather mount. Overall measures 97cm.
A pair of Edwardian Coalport miniature vases, of baluster form with twin foliate clasped handles, decorated with a circular reserve of flowers against a cobalt blue ground, gilt highlights, pattern V7586/285, each 7.5 by 11cm, together with another pair of Coalport vases, of tapering urn form, decorated with an overlaid gilt frieze of birds against a blue pattern below, check borders and gilt rims, pointed leaf feet, pattern V6662/223, each 6 by 7.5cm.
