A 19th Century Florentine carved walnut and pietra dura canted rectangular casket by Angiolo Barbetti, the sides with carved signature and date cartouche `Barbetti Firenze` and dated `Anno 1865`, the hinged lid inset with a rectangular marble panel, inlaid with a floral spray, within a finely carved and moulded border, the front and back panels carved in relief with a central urn flanked by ram masks and foliate scrolls, the stepped base with carved continuous band, the interior lined in maple, height approx 15cm, width approx 28.5cm. Note: Angiolo Barbetti (1805-1873), a skilled carver, designer and decorator, produced a large range of carved ivory, ebony and walnut furniture, including frames, boxes, candelabra and much larger commissions, such as lavishly inlaid cabinets and tables. A regular award-winner at the international fairs and exhibitions, Barbetti was selected to represent Tuscany at the London International Exhibition of 1851.
