A selection of tortoiseshell and tortoiseshell coloured boxes, 19th century and later, comprising a portrait print mounted example depicting two ladies, 11.5cm diameter, an etui with hinged cover and vacant shield shaped cartouche (lacking contents), 8.2cm high, a spectacle case with marcasite monogrammed 'M', an oval trinket dish inset with silver coloured classical urn, 10.5cm wide, an octagonal pill box, 7cm wide, and a tortoiseshell mounted snuff box, 8cm wide, (all at fault) (6)CR; Circular box: crazing throughout. Possible signs of of over-painting. Scratching and some loss to the portrait. Portrait does not sit secure in the frame and moves around. Some denting and bending to the metal frame. Cracks to the cover, possible signs of repair. Crack to the inside rim of the base. General scratching, wear and tear to inside and outside.Etui: Heavy scratching and wear to the exterior. Several cracks and areas of loss to the exterior. Tearing to the fabric lining in the cover, and extensive glue repair. Moderate scratching and wear to the case interior, but no splitting.Spectacle case: Heavy scratching and wear to interior and exterior. Many stones from monogram are missing. One of the hinges is broken, showing loss to the case surround and signs of attempted repair. The catch is not in working order. The cover does not sit flush with the case and is slightly lopsided.All other pieces show moderate to heavy scratching and wear. The octagonal case has heavy losses to the cover, as well as chips and nibbles to the edges, and shows signs of glue repair in several places. The oval dish has a chip missing to the rim, and a large crack in the rim. There are some areas of loss on the inlaid border and central motif, as well as denting, scratching and wear. There is a later added mount to the reverse. The snuff box is in relatively good order, no signs of obvious damage or repair, however the cover does not sit flush to the box.

The Gt. and sister by court painter',8.5cm x 6.5cm, Framed and glazed (at fault),Together with a further ten hand-painted and printed portrait miniatures, largest 12.5cm x 9.5cm, smallest 3cm x 2.5cm, and two miniature landscapes, ink on paper, each 10cm x 7cm (14) (at fault) CONDITION REPORT:The painted surface of the miniature depicting the two children is worn down to the ivory over approximately three quarters of its surface, leaving the bottom left hand corner still visible. The visible section also shows surface wear and fine surface scratching. The panel appears to have been placed in an associated frame.The other pieces in the lot show various degrees of wear and fading. One shows a full length loss to the right hand side. Some appear to have been placed in associated frames. Trevanion Auctioneers & Valuers do not ship items containing ivory outside the UK. Trevanion recommends that buyers check with their own government regarding any importation requirements prior to placing a bid. A buyer's inability to import these lots cannot justify a delay in payment or sale cancellation.The government have proposed legislation to create a UK law to ban the sale of all ivory. Please note this means that this lot is legal to sell now but may not be in the future.

A 1796 pattern infantry sword, the 82.5cm fullered steel blade with etched decoration and bayonet tip, the gilt brass hilt with folding guard, knuckle bow with bud finial, cast wire effect grip and urn pommel, 98.5cm long overall, lacking scabbard, with a similar example lacking knuckle bow and finial, a c1790 Naval officer's sword with 74.5cm straight fullered steel blade, the brass stirrup hilt with single bar knuckle bow and horn grip mounted with a brass fouled anchor shield, 88.5cm long overall, and c1790 Naval type sword with 81cm straight fullered etched steel blade with bayonet tip, the steel stirrup hilt with single bar knuckle bow and ribbed and wired ivory grip, 92.5cm long overall, lacking scabbard (4) (at fault) CONDITION REPORT:The 1796 pattern infantry sword shows wear and tarnishing to the blade, wear to the gilt brass finish of the hilt and a build up of polish residue in various crevices. The 1796 pattern infantry sword lacking knuckle bow and finial is in a similar condition with painted losses. Its scabbard shows a detached brass mounted tip with crude attempted repair and further damage to the leather below the top mount. All the scabbard mounts show wear, dents and tarnish.The naval officer's sword with horn grip shows nicks, tarnishing and wear to the blade, with any etched or engraved decoration to the blade worn away. The hilt shows an open but apparently secure joint where the knuckle bar meets the hilt. The pommel shows a possible later capstan rivet. All brass areas show wear and tarnishing. The horn grip shows a build up of polish. The scabbard shows a crude repair to the tip.The naval officer's sword with ivory grip shows wear, tarnishing and pitting to the blade and steel hilt, and wear, staining and cracking to the ivory grip. The grip wiring is also detached in places.
