Circa 8th century B.C. Black burnished ceramic urn with conical lower body, two flared loop handles, bell-shaped upper body and flat everted rim; band of incised chevrons to the equator, horizontal linear bands and ropework key patterns; one handle restored. See Morandi, L., Early Iron Age Finds from the Villanovan cemetery of Colle Baroncio: remarks on early Vetulonia and its connections, in Mediterranean Archaeology, 2013. 2 kg, 25 cm high (9 7/8 in.). Ex private Orange Country collection.with Ancient Resources Auctions, Auction 34, 14 September 2014, lot 246.Accompanied by a detailed collector's catalogue pages including description and photograph. Such urns were often deposited with the cremated remains inside, one handle broken off (perhaps part of the funerary rites) and in some case a bronze crested helmet placed over the top of the urn.
A PAIR OF CARVED GILTWOOD TWIN LIGHT WALL APPLIQUES MID 18TH CENTURY, POSSIBLY ITALIAN Each with backplate with flaming urn above branches issuing from winged grotesque sea monster, metal scrolling branches each 42cm high, 30cm wide (across the arms), 22.5cm protuberance Condition Report: Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Both formerly drilled for electricity, some weakness to holes in pans, - loss to gilded surface throughout- reverse showing signs of old glued repairs. A GEORGE IV MAHOGANY WINE CISTERN BY GILLOWS, CIRCA 1825 61cm high, 70cm diameterProvenance: Purchased from John Bell of Aberdeen, 1961. Featured in The Field magazine, 19th October 1961. For a near identical wine cistern by Gillows, purchased by Stephen Tempest for his dining room at Broughton Hall, North Yorkshire, in 1813, see Susan E. Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, Antique Collectors' Club, 2008, Volume II, page 94, plate 640. For a closely related wine cistern, but slightly smaller and in 'tired' condition, see Christie's, New York, The Connoisseur's Eye, 7th June 2013, Lot 205 ($8,750). Please note, this lot has been confirmed to be BY GILLOWS, this urn is bearing the script of known Gillows craftsman Joseph Wilcock. Condition Report: SALEROOM NOTICE: This wine cistern is BY GILLOWS, SIGNED TO THE BASE 'J. WILCOCK'There are scratches, marks, knocks, chips, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.Observations include: this cistern is of sectional construction with some cracks along these lines; there is a band of screws to the interior fixing the generous gadrooned sections; there are recessed casters to the plinth base; the carved fluting lines are carved in pleasing deep relief; the underside is signed in pencil 'J. Wilcock' and indistinctly 'Pon'(?)Joseph Wilcock (fl. 1825-39) was the son of James Wilcock, cabinet maker of Lancaster, apprenticed to L Redmayne from 27 August 1825. He was probably the man listed in the Gillow's Petty Ledger for 1834-39. On 14 May 1835 he was named with James and Richard Wilcock in Gillow & Co.'s payroll when he earned £5.11s.1d. In June 1839 he made a piece of furniture for Battersby Esq., a customer of Ferguson & Co. Many examples made by him are listed in the Gillow's Estimate Sketch Books. A PAIR OF FRENCH GILT METAL MOUNTED HARDSTONE TABLE LAMPS LATE 19TH OR EARLY 20TH CENTURY In the Empire manner with urn shaped mottled green and white stone bodies within swan head handles, fitted as lights 77.5cm high overall, bases 13.5cm wide Condition Report: Wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Both have build up of surface dirt with discolouration and verdigris to the mounts. One with section of restoration at base of one handle- visible under strong and UV light. Gilding rubbed from use. A large and damaged early 20th century Italian Maiolica large urn, twin handled, both handles with cherubs (one with a broken head), the body with an assortment of painted decorations, large restored cracks to the body, AF, 77cm highAs catalogued one of the cherub heads broken off but present. The body and ornate handles with numerous crudly repaired cracks, the base of the column appears to have estoration. The base with numerous chips, as catalogued AF.

A pair of grand tour bronze urns,19th century, each on a simulated marble base,21cm wide15cm deep25.5cm high (2)Condition ReportThe urns are loosely attached to the bases, and can be rotated around. There are a few knocks to the carved wood bases, and losses to decoration. The bottom of one base has a green baize lining, however it is torn and worn, the other is uncovered. There is verdgris to the interiors of the urns and slight marking to the exterior. There is a slight gap between the handle and bowl of one urn. Please see additional images. Generally however, the urns are aesthetic pleasing with a worn and aged look.

The inkstand in generally good condition with minor surface dirt.
