Garden Urn: A pair of terracotta 'Brunhild' planters designed by Archibald Knox for Libertyearly 20th centurystamped designed and manufactured by Liberty and Co61cm wide Liberty and Co., the famous Regent Street retailers offered a range of terracotta garden ornament from the early years of the 20th Century to shortly after the First World War.Archibald Knox, their most famous designer was born in the Isle of Man of Scottish parenthood. His designs were synonymous with British Art Nouveau and he is regarded as being a prominent influence in the Arts and Crafts movement. In addition to metalwork, jewellery, carpets, wallpaper and fabrics for Liberty & Co, Knox designed also terracotta garden ornament.
A 19th century French gilt metal and Sevres style porcelain mounted clock garniture, the floral painted and jeweled Roman numeral dial signed Batty Manchester, with eight day movement stamped D.C & Cie 1037 Paris and with Japy Freres seal mark, the elaborate case modelled as a barrel surmounted with an urn and embellished with birds holding floral garlands, 55cm, with a pair of six light candelabra side ornaments, the Sevres mounts painted with birds and cherubs, on scroll feet, 50cm (3) (one of the side ornaments AS FOUND) CONDITION REPORT: One of the side ornaments is bent where the sconces meet the column. There is a chip to the blue of the porcelain at the top part of the candlestick, 2cm x 1cm approx., and a few other smaller nicks. The other side ornaments has a similar positioned chip but this is smaller than on the other example. Again, a few small nicks to the porcelain on the upper sections. All other porcelain panels ok, perhaps a little rubbing and slightly grubby. The medal mounts with general tarnishing and rubbing.
Three Chinese porcelain Cantonese celadon plates, each piece decorated with fauna and flora, largest 26cm diameter, along with an A.Holland Wedgwood bowl, centrally painted with a classical urn and rose blossoms with further gilt decoration etc, 24.5cm high (4) CONDITION REPORT: Wedgwood - Signed 'A.Holland'. Surface scratching of varying degrees including stained examples. Smal gilt chip to rim.Celadon plates- Each with surface scratching, enamel wear, firing cracks and pitting. Larger example with chip to rim and kiln error to foot rim. One smaller example with large underglaze hairline crack. Other smaller example with four underglaze chips to the rim.
A CREAM-PAINTED AND PARCEL-GILT CONSOLE TABLE in the manner of Robert Adam, the satinwood top painted with a circular mythological medallion, suspended from ribbon-tied bows with scrolling leafy foliage issuing from the sides and enclosed by a green painted border with swags, anthemia and paterae, the frieze with a musical trophy and a running band of oak leaves and acorns, on panelled square tapering legs, carved with oval paterae, joined by shaped stretchers with a central flaming urn finial and ending in carved hoof feet, 41.75" wide . Provenance: The Hoare Family and thence by descent The overall form of this table relates to Thomas Sheraton's "The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing Book", published 1793, plate IV from the appendix - Pier Tables.
