Baccarat, a moulded, cut and etched glass twenty-four light chandelier, late 20th century, in early 19th century taste, with two tiers of twelve twist moulded branches issuing from a metal circlet, each with flared and etched shade above an electrical fitment within an urn socket, above drip pans hung with faceted glass pendants, the hobnail and twist moulded stem with urn section beneath a flared ceiling fitment, with further twist moulded stems rising beneath, each with pendant bellflower; the hobnail cut dished underside with Baccarat factory stamp, with further faceted pendants around a bellflower terminal, approximately 112cm high, 110cm wide

Provenance, from the estate of Major Charles St. John Colthurst (1904-1985) whose mother, Emma Susan Uebelher, was from Buffalo New York, thence by family decent to the present vendor. Being sold with the painting is a pair of lorgnettes. Family legend has it that these are the same pair being held by Mr Hibbard in the picture.(See cover illustration - detail) Condition report: Upper third of canvas in good condition. Lower two-thirds suffers from a degree of flaking and minor paint loss, particularly to the bottom edge where there has been some overpainting to mask paint loss.From the back can be seen one patch covering an area of repair approximately one and a half inches square.To conclude: The painting needs some restoration. In it's favour, there is virtually no overpainting or restoration to 95% of the image.
