Family legend has it that these are the same pair being held by Mr Hibbard in the picture.(See cover illustration - detail) Condition report: Upper third of canvas in good condition. Lower two-thirds suffers from a degree of flaking and minor paint loss, particularly to the bottom edge where there has been some overpainting to mask paint loss.From the back can be seen one patch covering an area of repair approximately one and a half inches square.To conclude: The painting needs some restoration. In it's favour, there is virtually no overpainting or restoration to 95% of the image.
