A rare mid 19th century gilt brass strut clock very much in the manner of Thomas Cole, the silvered dial profusely engraved with foliage, with Roman chapter ring and blued steel fleur-de-lys hands, the centre engraved with an urn overflowing with fruit within a floral garland above a fixed date calendar with key day adjuster, all within a scrolling foliate engraved gilt frame, the backplate with folding winding handles and shutter to the escapement and engraved by the retailer `C.F. Hancock, By Appointment to Principle Sovereigns and Courts of Europe 39 Bruton St. Bond St. London`, number 875, with easel stand and shaped swivel base, folding suspension loop to top, 5¼in. (13.25cm.) high. * Thomas Cole was born in Somerset in 1800, the son of a clockmaker. Cole moved to London in the early 1820’s but was not working independently until about 1838. By 1845 Cole was calling himself a ‘designer and maker of ornamental clocks’ and exhibited as such at the Great Exhibition of 1851. He is justly famous for high quality clocks of individual design, always with fine engraving. ** Neither the movement nor the case is stamped ‘Thomas Cole’ but the design, the engraving and the serial number all indicate that this timepiece can be attributed to him with confidence. A miniature Queen Anne style burr walnut longcase clock c.1910, the swan neck arched top with central urn finial, over an arched door enclosing a brass dial with matted centre and silvered chapter ring and `Tempus Fugit` roundel to arch, brass mask spandrels, with an eight day bell strike mantel clock style movement, the slender trunk with shaped arched door, on a plinth base with integral bracket feet, 70¾in. (179.5cm.) high.
A good quality Edwardian mahogany and marquetry bureau the top, fall and drawers all with boxwood stringing and cross banding, the fall and drawers with floral and foliate marquetry scrolls issuing from an urn and lyres, the fitted interior with central cupboard and six pigeon holes over four drawers, inset black leather writing surface, the three oak lined drawers with reeded and floral swan neck handles, on shaped bracket feet, 34¼ x 18in. (87 x 46cm.), 38½in. (98cm.) high. See Illustration
A good pair of Edwardian silver table candlesticks William Hutton & Sons, London 1902, in the Adam manner, the fluted urn socles with detachable drip pans on square fluted and tapered columns, set on flared stepped square bases, loaded, engraved inscription to front of each base, 12in. A Channel Islands needlework sampler first half 19th century, with stitched inscription `Martha Robert Aged 10 Years A.D.`, the square sampler worked in red, pink, olive green, pale brown and ivory, depicting an urn of flowers, birds, dragonflies and roses issuing from cornucopia, within a floral and cross meander border, 16¼ x 18¼in. (41.25 x 46.5cm.), within an ebonised frame. See Illustration
An ivory fan circa 1750, the hand painted vellum leaf depicting a marriage procession with bride on horseback, the reverse hand painted with lake side castle vignette between two gilt floral sprays, pierced ivory and pique work sticks, the blades of which are decorated with urn, bell ringer and cornucopia motifs, 10½in. A late 19thC French bronze inkwell and stand, the urn shaped reservoir with mask head receptacle and enamelled lining to the mouth and reservoir interior, with detachable cover, the circular dish shaped stand cast with classical portrait medallions and with an inner band of classical figures of Pan, 25cm diameter.

Small dents, particularly to the base of each candlestick. One of the candlesticks dented to the base rim. Light surface wear. Good condition.

The ivory handle with cracks. Otherwise some small dents to the body.
