A Victorian oak musical bracket clock, the case carved with classical decoration, including masks, scrolls swags and shell, and an urn finial, the unusual oval silvered dial signed 'Hamilton Crighton & Co., 41 George Street, Edinburgh', the backplate also signed, the triple fusee movement striking the hours on a bell and the quarters on either eight or ten bells, the arch with strike/silent and chiming dials,84cm highHamilton Crichton and Co. were clockmakers, silversmiths, jewellers and retailers in George Street, Edinburgh. Crichton seems to be spelt with a 'g' in both places on this clock, but in all other information about this firm, it is spelt with a 'c'.The firm retailed the animal decanters made by Alexander Crichton and it could be assumed that there was a family connection.
