Josef Lorenzl design for Goldscheider, figure of a young girl wearing floral print dress, impressed Lorenzl, Goldscheider Austria, numbered 6540, height 30 cm . 1cm patches of restoration to lower frills of skirt. 2mm loss of glaze to bow of skirt, and two similar losses to ruffle around neck. 1mm paint spot to chest. No other damage found.

Selinos, tetradrachm, c. 417-409 BC, Artemis driving quadriga right with Apollo standing beside her drawing bow; above, laurel wreath, rev., ΣΕΛΙΝΟΝΤ-ΙΟΝ, the young river-god Selinos, nude, standing facing, head turned to left, holding laurel branch and pouring from phiale over lighted altar in front of which stands cockerel; to right, bull on pedestal above which votive tablet and selinon leaf, 17.50g, die axis 7.00 (cf. Schwabacher 40 but slightly different dies), flaw on head of Apollo, minor marks, extremely fine and rare. Provenance: Galerie des Monnaies private purchase, late 1970s; Morton & Eden 72, 15 December 2014, lot 11.

Augustus (27 BC-AD 14), aureus, Spain, Colonia Patricia (?), 18-17 BC, S P Q R IMP CAESARI AVG COS XI TR POT VI, bare head right, rev., CIVIB ET SIGN MILIT A PART RECVP, triple triumphal arch surmounted by facing quadriga flanked by figures holding, on the left, a standard, and on the right, an aquila and bow, 7.84g, die axis 7.30 (RIC 131; BMC 427; Calico 193; C. 82; Foss 49; Hill Monuments 83), toned, good very fine and very rare. Provenance: Hess-Leu 36, 17 April 1968, lot 427. Rollin & Feuardent, Paris, 27 May 1889, The Comte Albéric du Chastel de la Howardries Collection, lot n°196. The reverse type records the recovery in 20 BC of captives, military eagles and standards that had been lost to the Parthians by Crassus in 53 BC at the disastrous battle of Carrhae. The recovery was achieved through diplomacy rather than military action and ranked among Augustus’s proudest achievements in avoiding the expense and bloodshed of war.

A William IV flame mahogany bow fronted stick barometer, 17.5cm x 10cm silvered register inscribed Troughton & Simms, London, turned half-urnular cistern cover, 99cm high, c.1835 This important instrument making firm goes back to brothers John (d. 1826) and Edward (1756-1835) Troughton took over their Lancashire-born father, Joseph's Fleet Street instrument making business, and on John's death Edward took William Simms (1793-1860) into partnership and the firm flourished gaining many important commissions. It became a limited company in 1915 and in 1922 became Cooke, Troughton & Simms.
