An early Victorian cream satin wedding dress, worn in 1847, the overdress is adorned with ruffles, padded with cotton wool, lace to the neck and the bodice and edging the puff, ruched cuffs to elbow length, a box pleat train hangs from the back of the neckline, the satin underskirt is adorned with similar padded ruffles and a bow- decorated long ruffle to the front of the skirt, visible through the over dress. The original wax flower headdress is present and a grey pleated sleeve with ostrich feather embellishment from the bride's going away outfit.Condition ReportThe underskirt has staining to the front and side. The hem is lightly dirty with small bit of lace unstitched at front. The main dress right hand side pocket slit the seam is approx 2" unstitched. Under the arms both sides staining and wear to material. Small hole lower left hand side. Lace at back of neck stained. Few marks but generally good for age.
