MOONRAKER (1979) - Glastron Carlson Speedboat - A Glastron Carlson speedboat from the production of Lewis Gilbert's Bond film Moonraker. In the climactic action sequence, Hugo Drax's (Michael Lonsdale) men chased Bond down the Amazon River in speedboats.Four Glastron Carlson CV23HT speedboats were acquired for production by EON Productions for the chase sequence and customized with a specialty silver flake gel coat over gray paint applied during the fiberglass molding process. This is believed to be one of only two to survive from production, having been sold at a boat show in 1979 and held in a private collection ever since. However, as the custom upper canopy visible in the film is not included, it remains unknown if one was ever affixed to this boat, and therefore if it was ever filmed. In addition to its distinctive paint scheme, this operational, gas-powered speedboat features ID number "GCV 10542C," a latching sunshield over the cabin, a "Glastron Carlson" plaque, and a MerCruiser 260 HP stern-driven engine with functional lighting and speaker systems installed. The interior is upholstered with gray leatherette and paneled with varnished wood, and features red velvet and white shag carpeting. A "Moonraker II" decal was affixed to the starboard bow by the current owner. Also included is a Letter of Authenticity from noted James Bond collector and co-founder of The Ian Fleming Foundation, Doug Redenius.Following production, red pinstriping was added. This pinstriping is tape-based, not paint, and can be removed with heat. Due to age and exposure, the boat exhibits rusting to its internal mechanisms, fading to the exterior and wood finishes, and various liquid streaks and grime, but it retains its iconic silver coloration. As it remains stored and registered in Canada, bidders will need to contact Propstore in advance to arrange shipment and transfer of registration. Dimensions: 276" x 83" x 72" (702 cm x 211 cm x 211 cm)Contains electronics; see electronics notice in the Buyer's Guide.Special shipping required; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.Stored off-site; see off-site storage notice in the Buyer's Guide.Estimate: $30,000 - 60,000Bidding for this lot will end on Wednesday, June 28th. AN ENGRAVED COMMEMORATIVE NAVAL SIDEARM OR CUTLASS FOR THE BATTLE OF TRAFALGARLATE 18TH/EARLY 19TH CENTURY, THE ENGRAVING CIRCA 1805The curved steel elaborately engraved blade inscribed NELSON TRAFALGAR and ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY, the brass hilt and knuckle bow inscribed BRITANNIA, TRAFALGAR, L'AIGLE 74 and OCTR. 21 1805, the blade 27 1/2inches long (70cm), 83cm in length overall; with leather and gilt-metal mounted scabbardThis naval sidearm likely commemorates the taking of the French ship of the line L'Aigle of 74 guns by a boarding party from H.M.S. Defiance (74). Keen students of the battle will know that prior to the main party boarding reaching L'Aigle, Master's Mate James 'Jack' Spratt (1771-1853) leapt overboard with a cutlass between his teeth and swam over to the French ship, gaining entrance via the stern gun ports. Engaging the French crew single handed, he was only saved by the timely arrival of the British party. Spratt was badly wounded and injuries to his leg meant that in time he would be invalided out of the Navy with the rank of Commander. He wasn't forgotten by the Navy and for a period commanded a signal station in Teinmouth, where he retired and is buried. The entry in the ship's log reads:A certain Mr.Spratt, an active young master's mate, took his cutlass between his teeth and his battle-axe in his belt, called to the 50 other boarders he was leading to follow, leapt over board and swam to the L'Aigle, followed by a few men; he got in at the stern gun port up the rudder chains and was met by some of the crew, who resisted. He swung on a rope to avoid three grenadiers, then killed two with his cutlass and pushed the third down onto a lower deck where the soldiers neck was broken, Spratt landing on top was uninjured. He succeed in cutting his way through and hauled down the Frenchman's colours, and in the act of doing so, was shot through the leg after having deflecting the shot down from his chest with his cutlass.Whilst it would be wonderful if this was the actual cutlass used by Jack Spratt, the vendors have absolutely no evidence that this is case and though with naval ancestors from a later period, have no evidence of a connection to Spratt. The word 'Britannia' engraved on the knuckle bow is likely to generic and unlikely to reference H.M.S. Britannia. That ship, while present at Trafalgar was no where near L'Aigle and in the wrong column on the day. Condition Report: Some wear to the blade and a little historic corrosion. Some damage/deterioration to the scabbard, the scabbard in two parts. Some cracks to the guard. Please see supporting images available upon request. Scabbard to blade is a tight fit. Some cuts to the blade.Condition Report Disclaimer

Circle of Francis Hayman (1708-1776) Portrait of a lady in a white silk dress with blue bow and blue cloak, a string of pearls in her hair, in a painted ovaloil on canvas, in a carved and giltwood frame74 x 62cmProvenance:Presumably by descent within the Jackson family to Elizabeth Jackson, who married Thomas Berney of Bracon,Thence by descent to the present ownerThe sitter by family tradition was Grace Jackson (née Goldstone, c.1750-1798), later Lady Duckett, daughter and heir of London merchant, Gwyn Goldstone of Goldstone, Shropshire, and his wife Grace Duckett. In 1775, she married George Jackson (1725-1822), politician, Deputy Secretary to the Admiralty and patron of Captain James Cook. In 1791, her husband was created a baronet. Upon the death of her uncle, Thomas Duckett, in 1797, her husband assumed the name Duckett to secure the inheritance of the family Hartham estate at Corsham, Wiltshire, becoming Sir George Duckett, 1st Bt. From the dress, however, and fashion of the sitter, the latter cannot be someone born circa 1750. The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which has been lined. There are localised areas of flaking and loss located at the edges of the picture, associated with framing and impact. The rest of the paint layers are in a good, stable condition. Overpaint is present, visible in ultraviolet light, mainly covering wear and abrasion in the background. The varnish is matte, dull and no longer adequately saturating the paint layers. There are matte spots and surface dirt present.

Edward Hopper (American, 1882-1967)The Cat Boat (Zigrosser 4; Levin p.83) Etching, 1922, a very good impression, on wove paper, with partial watermark Umbria Italia, signed in pencil, from an unknown edition size, with wide margins, framedPlate 200 x 250mm (7 7/8 x 9 3/4in)Sheet 343 x 403mm (13 1/2 x 16in)Footnotes:Edward Hopper worked as a commercial artist and magazine illustrator and is well known for his atmospheric, melancholic depictions of life during the American Depression. Between 1915 and 1923 he focussed on printmaking, depicting urban scenes of New York and Paris and the landscapes of the New England coast, where he spent his summers and learnt to sail.In this etching, the viewer is granted a glimpse into the artist's private world, with an evocative image of a cat boat, a small sailboat with a single sail and the mast fixed towards the bow. Hopper built his own cat boat as a teenager and his technical knowledge and practical experience are evident in the rendering of the sailboat, with its exact tilt counterbalanced by the three sailors, the taut sail catching the wind and the waves swelling along the stern, conveying a sense of movement and adventure. His meticulous execution ensured that a perfectly balanced composition was achieved, with the boat and white sail offset against the dark background of the shoreline, confirming Hopper, as former Moma director Alfred Barr remarked, as 'a master of the pictorial drama'.For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
