A rare double barrelled 20 bore pellet lock sporting gun, by H W Mortimer, converted from a flintlock of c 1800 with breech drums, 43½” overall, barrels 28” with tall sighting rib, breeches with single broad gold line and traces of engraved “Nock, London”; flat stepped locks have Forsyth type hammers and hinged strikers replacing the original frizzens, which are linked to the original frizzen springs which clamp them over the breech drums, the bevelled plates engraved with rayed patterns and signed “H W Mortimer” in oval cartouche; walnut halfstock having chequered wrist and cheekpiece, and steel mounts including throat pipe and trigger guard having classical urn and pineapple finials, the large trigger guard bow engraved with flowers and foliage. Good Working Order and Condition (ramrod a replacement, some wear to the barrels) Plate 29
A good quality mid 19th century German .300” percussion sporting rifle, by “Ulbrich in Dresden”, 43¾” overall, octagonal twist barrel 28”, with 2 gold lines at breech and gold inlaid with the maker’s name, with single standing rearsight; flat lock and hammer with lined borders and engraved with scrolled foliage; nicely figured pale walnut halfstock, with cheekpiece, scroll engraved chequered panels at the wrist, and sliding wooden butt trap cover released by sprung button in the centre of a carved flower head; steel mounts include large scrolled trigger guard enclosing double set triggers, trigger guard bow and butt plate tang engraved with scrolls, large flat scroll engraved sideplate mirroring the lock; with its original steel ramrod. Good Working Order and Condition, with dark patina to the metalwork (small chip to butt trap cover). Plate 29.
A fine German double barrelled 20 bore flintlock sporting gun, by “Wittemann in Giessen”, c 1790, 51½” overall, lightly browned barrels 35¾” with 10” flat side ribs at the breech end, and signed on the top rib; plain rounded line engraved locks having swan neck cock with sharp medial ridge and square ended pans and frizzens; the nicely figured pale walnut halfstock having horn fore end cap , the butt with cheekpiece, carved with flowers and scrolls around the breech tang, throat pipe trigger guard and cheekpiece; steel mounts include throat pipe, trigger guard and butt plate tang with classical urn type finials, trigger guard bow engraved with panel depicting hunting dog attacking a deer, butt plate tang also engraved with hunting scene, the wrist with shell embossed silver escutcheon engraved with initials and surrounded by inlaid silver wire scrolls; with sling swivels and horn tipped wooden ramrod. Very Good Working Order and Condition for age, the locks and mounts with original bright finish. Plate 29
An officer’s 1816 (Regency) pattern shako badge of The 31st (Huntingdonshire) Regiment, silver plated XXXI in the centre, within a scroll “Peninsula” and wreath of laurel with a bow at the base, 2 fastening loops. 'suspicion has fallen upon McGregor the gardener…’ ST. VINCENT EARL OF: (1735-1823) British Admiral of the Fleet. A.L.S., St. Vincent, one page, 4to, Rocketts, Brentwood, 18th August 1819, to his nephew Edward Jervis Ricketts. St. Vincent announces 'The Vinery… and some of the Espalier in my garden were plundered to a great extent on Saturday night, or early on Sunday morning', continuing to inform Ricketts of 'a strict investigation made by an intelligent Bow Street officer', and that 'suspicion has fallen upon McGregor the gardener, who by his own account livd with Mr Josiah Wedgewood'. The letter concludes with St. Vincent asking Ricketts to enquire into McGregor's conduct whilst in the employ of 'Mr W'. With integral address leaf in St. Vincent's hand, signed ('St. Vincent') by him and with the remnants of a red wax seal (some tears and areas of paper loss where broken). Two small mounting hinges to the head and foot of the letter, otherwise VG Edward Jervis Jervis (1767- 1859) 2nd Viscount St Vincent, born Edward Jervis Ricketts.

A set of four mahogany Regency dining chairsThe chairs with a Prince of Wales feathers motif above a fluted vases shaped central upright and flanked by slender ring turned uprights above a bow-front stuff-over seat and raised on ring turned tapering legs and peg feet, plain rear outswept legs, height of chair 90cm. CONDITION REPORT: We believe them to be early to mid 19th Century.

An original embroidery design of flowers, 1951, pencil and watercolour on paper, showing a large posy of flowers tied with a blue bow, including roses, tulips, lilies, columbines, irises, etc., slightly faded, 74.5 x 54cm (29.25 x 21.25ins), framed and glazed, dated manuscript note on backboard, together with a smaller oval embroidery design of a posy of roses and morning glory, pencil and watercolour, 32 x 21.5cm (12.5 x 8.5ins), mounted, framed and glazed According to the manuscript label this is an original design commissioned by English actress and producer Ann Todd (1909-1993) for an embroidery picture which was worked in filoselle on satin by Miss Page. Ann Todd did not have the embroidery in the end, and it was sold to Keith Mason, AC, QC (born 1947), former President of the Court of Appeal of New South Wales, Australia, who paid for both the embroidery and the design, and gave the embroidery to a friend in Australia. The design was left in the possession of the Ladies' Work Society on the condition that it was never reproduced. (2)
