A very high quality and unusual copper alloy brooch with a hinged rather than sprung pin mechanism. The decorated swan head terminals at the foot are unusual in the fact they are twisted back . Most likely from around the 3rd/4th century.W47mm. H28mm. And a 1st Century Bow and Fantail Brooch with beautifully enamelled segments. Three triangular enamelled segments on the foot terminal with one red segment above two white and the centre section consisting of three rectangular enamelled segments in an alternating white/red/white pattern. Anglo-Saxon Brooch. Circa 7th century AD. Copper-alloy, L69mm,W40mm 15.82g. A cruciform brooch formed of a square head with crescent-shaped wings on three sides, a short bow and elongated foot plate with an expanding finial. The brooch has a series of incised lines decorating the outer edge of each of the three wings. Incomplete missing pin and catchplate.
Late 5th-6th century cast copper alloy zoomorphic cruciform brooch with the iron pin missing on the reverse but the single pin lug and catch plate are present. The head-plate is winged with a single knop on the top. The knop is divided by two bands. The wings, on each side of the head-plate, are rectangular. Below the bow, the catch-plate is ribbed where it joins the bow and the foot. The foot is in the form of an animal's head, and has moulded eyes and scrolled nostrils.
Pair of Saxon copper alloy small-long brooches 6th century. Brooch 1 is Rectangular (19mm x 14mm) head decorated with eight punched dots around the border. The bow section is plain attaching onto a teardrop shaped footplate which is also decorated with five punched dots in a “T” pattern, the tip is missing. The catchplate and pin are both missing. L50mm. 7.13g. Brooch 2 has a rectangular head (18.8mm x 12mm) with fixing holes located in the upper corners of the head plate. The bow has 4 inscribed lines running vertically along the spine ending in a tapered 3 sectioned footplate. Pin is missing but the catch plate and pin mount are present in good condition. Weigh 13g. L53.5mm.
