(2) Gladys Burroughs, by then a Matron, was amongst "The ladies (who) had the honoiur of being received by the King at Buckingham Palace on Saturday last [May 4th 1918], when his Majesty decorated them with the Royal Red Cross".
A MIRROR-BACKED BUILDER'S HALF MODEL OF THE, S.S. ELLERAY, BUILT BY BLYTHE SHIPBUILDING CO. LTD. NORTHUMERLAND, FOR THE ELLERAY S.S. CO. LTD. 1905. with carved and painted hull, lined and lacquered decks complete with superstructure as appropriate, silvered and gilt fittings, mounted on original front-silvered mirror in mahogany case with bow and stern view mirrors and builder's plate, 12I x 56D x 7in. (32 x 143 x 18cm.) overall, The general purpose cargo ship Elleray registered 1,201 tons, was listed as missing on a voyage between Hartlepool and London on 3rd January, 1922.

A good 24 bore French flintlock sporting gun with detachable stock, butt carved with a greyhound's head, 48½", barrel 33", open sights. Quarter stocked, engraved lock and steel trigger guard with elaborately shaped bow and finial. Chequered pistol grip and fore. Butt finely and realistically carved as a greyhound's head with Mother of Pearl inlaid eyes, ebony pupils, silver collar and ring. Good patina overall. Good Working Order and Condition. Plate 32
A single barrelled 8 bore percussion wildfowling gun by Charles Lancaster, 52" overall, twist barrel 36" with platinum line and poincon at breech and engraved "Charles Lancaster, 151 New Bond Street, London", large flat lock with Manton style flat hammer, engraved with scrolls, toothed borders and "C Lancaster, London", pale walnut halfstock with chequered wrist, cheekpiece, horn fore end cap and silver barrel wedge plates and escutcheons; steel mounts including large scrolled trigger guard with pineapple finial, the bow and butt plate tang engraved with game birds; original brass mounted ramrod. A double barrelled 14 bore patch lock sporting gun, by Jackson (possibly Richard Jackson of London), 46¼" overall, browned twist barrel 30", the top rib engraved "Jacksons Improved Central Fire", the locks nicley engraved with scrolls, borders and "Jackson", the scroll engraved hammers with detachable cylindrical noses (the edges chipped), walnut halfstock with chequered fore end and wrist; engraved steel mounts, the trigger guard bow with game dog; steel tipped ramrod. A good .577" Enfield Snider Mark II** 3 band rifle, 54¼" overall, barrel 36½" with various Bow inspector's marks at the breech; the lock bearing crowned "VR", "1861 Enfield" and inspector's mark; walnut fullstock with clear RM Enfield over "1" stamp on the butt, regulation brass mounts, the butt plate tang stamped "66/295", sling swivels, original steel cleaning rod. A Figural Blackamore Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock, with a silk suspension and a disk pendulum. The enamel dial set within a drum case in the form of a bundle of straw raised on the female figure's head, with a babe in a basket hung around her neck. The stepped plinth base having a bow front applied with a gilt brass mount. On small bell form feet. 14 ins (36 cms) in height, 8½ ins (22 cms) wide, 4¼ ins (11 cms) deep.

Two Edwardian Silver Comports. One engraved with a basket of fruit suspended from a ribbon bow festooned in garlands of bell flowers and raised on a flared pedestal foot, hallmarked Birmingham 1915 with W.A. maker's initials. The other with a pierced foliate scroll border and flared pedestal foot hallmarked Birmingham 1921.

The velvet lined lid opening to reveal an ivory bordered interior with two tortoiseshell lidded compartment. The bow sided body raised on ivory bun feet. 6 ins (15 cms) in height, 7¼ ins (18 cms) wide, 4¾ ins (12 cms) in depth.
A 19th Century French Oak & Ebonised 'Cave de Liqueur'. The raised top with flared sides centred by a Union Plastic oval profile portrait with a floral bow topped festoon, and cartouche plaques to the surrounding corners. The triple panelled break-front having ebonised mouldings & centred by oval appliqués; two with profile portraits. The front lifting and swinging back to reveal a recess with a drop in gilt handled tray housing four cut glass decanters with rose-gold highlights and ball stoppers, the centre having a two tiered tray; each glass secured by joined gilt bronze floriate hoops. The moulded base raised on compressed square block feet 12 ins (30 cms) in height, 16 ins (40 cms) wide, 13 ins (33 cms) deep.
A Fine Early 19th Century French Grey veined White Marble Fire Surround. The mantel having a moulded edge and recessed rounded corners measuring 58 ins (148 cms) in width. The frieze centred by an ornate gilt metal mount depicting Hymen's trophy with flaming torch, bow & arrows entwined in foliage and flowing ribbons. The uprights pierced with ventilation holes either side enclosed behind hinged rosette roundels, and having sunken gilt embellishments to the stop-fluting of the rounded corners below fine gilded paterae, 41½ ins (106 cms) in height.
A French Directoire Mahogany Bow Front Cabinet with a grey veined Carrara marble top and pierced roundel gallery rail. The bow front housing a single long drawer highlighted with gilt brass beaded borders. The two-door glazed cabinet enclosing a single shelf interior and flanked by gilt stop fluted pilasters and curved glazed sides. The inverted cup baluster legs having brass caps and ball feet, 41½ ins (106 cms) in height, 53 ins (135 cms) wide, 22 ins (56 cms) deep.
A French Bombé Walnut Marquetry Commode with the serpentine red figured marble top. The front having two short and one long drawer with large rococo style handles and inlaid with roses within a quatrefoil strung border. The sides enhanced with a large inlaid basket issuing flora and topped with a bow. The splayed legs having cast sabots. 33 ins (84 cms) in height, 43½ ins (110 cms in width, 22 ins (56 cms) in height.
A Pair of Important French Louis XVI Style Ormolu Mounted Fruitwood, & Sycamore Parquetry Commodes. The long rectangular brêche d'alep marble tops with pierced gilt metal galleries and protruding canted corners above festooned laurel leaf gilt-metal mounts. The three long graduated parquetry drawers with lattice inlay enriched with foliate sprays. The beaded escutcheons with bow surmounts flanked by laurel wreath handles above a shaped apron with an ormolu lion head mount. Standing on cast scroll sabots 35 ins (89 cms) in height, 56¼ ins (143 cms) in width, 20 ins (51 cms) in depth.
A Fine & Rare Coromandel & Coconut Wood Side Table. The demi-lune top veneered in coromandel with fine bone inlaid stringing and a cross-banded coconut wood border. The inlaid frieze above slender tapering legs supporting a bow edged shelf. 30½ ins (77.5 cms) in height, 30 ins (76 cms) in width, 14½ ins (37 cms) in depth.

A Large 18th Century Walnut Veneered Bureau Bookcase. The associated upper section having a moulded cornice above two doors with broad cross-banded borders and inlaid feathered bands, opening to reveal adjustable shelves sliding into side grooves above a bank of pigeon holes and three tiers of drawers with candle- slides below. The bureau base having a lip-moulded fall front on side lopers, enclosing a stepped interior of serpentine fronted pigeon holes, secret compartments & drawers flanking a small bow-front cupboard, with a stationary well housed in the frieze enclosed by a sliding lid. The three top drawers and two long base drawers bordered by feather-banding with lip-moulded edges on a moulded base with bracket feet, 90 ins (229 cms) high, 38½ ins (98 cms) wide, 23 ins (59 cms) deep.
