Provenance: This automaton shop window device was made by the vendor's late father Alexander Buchanan (7/10/1910 - 31/01/2004) around the 1950s and was to commercially exploit a gap in the market for window displays for hire. It was put to work in Palmers Green in London in those days in various shop windows to great effect. The mains driven device enables the figure to bow, turn his head, move his arm, move his eyes, twiddle his nose and move his mouth.
