A 1:48 SCALE BOW MODEL FOR A 74-GUN 'COURAGEUX' ('LEVIATHAN') CLASS SHIP OF 1783-93, modelled by S. Seary from his own researches using plans and models at Greenwich, with carved wooden hull finished as appropriate, lined wooden decks throughout, cut-away bowsprit, head rails, catheads, chain plates, and bitts, mounted on a removable ebonised base with data plaque, overall measurements -- 22 x 19 x 15in. (56 x 48 x 38cm.), This class was based on the lines of the French ship Courageux captured by the Bellona in 1761. The English architects lengthened the lines a little and so they are also known as the 'Leviathan' Class and included some of the most famous ships to serve during the Napoleonic Wars - Carnatic (1783); Colossus (1787); Leviathan (1790); and Minotaur (1793). This model can be easily removed from the table stand and suspended from a wall. This lot will be available for viewing at Imperial Road

A pair of Staffordshire pottery flatback figures of a Scottish couple each with a drum, cannon and flags, 26cm high, a Victorian Staffordshire pottery flatback figure of a huntress, holding a bird of prey, bow and quiver of arrows with a dead bird at her feet, 29cm high, a Staffordshire figure of a girl playing a lute, 24cm high and a figure of Will Watch, the notorious smuggler and privateer, holding a pistol in each hand, titled to the base, 32.5cm high, CONDITION REPORT: Huntress - The head, neck, top of quiver and head of bird have all been heavily restored. There is also some restoration to the bow and the front foot. The glaze is crazed. There are a few minor firing cracks and some wear to the gilding. Girl with Lute - There is restoration to the top of the lute and the left arm. There is also some flaking to the paint on the base and the black hair. A Victorian mahogany bow fronted chest of two short over three long drawers on bracket feet, w. 104 cm CONDITION REPORT: Structurally sound, wear commensurate with age. Top surface with some scratches. Overall in good order. Drawers to not seem to fir flush and appear to sit proud of the carcass. Back papered. Bottom drawer base very loose.
