Hunting Hanger c.1740, straight single edge blade cut with single narrow fuller and deeply struck with fleur-de-lys maker’s mark on both sides, brass hilt with Orpheus and animals on guard, further figures and animals in relief on knuckle bow and pommel, one piece fluted horn grip. Blade 59cms. Good condition.
Late 17th Century Hunting Hanger, flat curved single edge blade deeply struck on each side with the crowned King’s head mark, brass hilt comprising shell guard with winged putti, scrolls and grotesque mask, knuckle bow with trophies of arms in relief, pommel with 4 heads and foliage all in relief, one piece natural staghorn grip. Blade 47cms. Good condition, age crack to staghorn, good patina. Note: the blade mark is probably that of John Hawgood, trading ‘at the sign of the King’s Head’ in Charing Cross in 1681, master of the London Cutlers Company in 1687, and contractor to the Board of Ordnance 1690-1697.
Unusual Indian Sword Tulwar from Mysore, broad curved pattern welded blade engraved with the Armoury inscription of Krishnaraja Wodeyar III (reg.1799-1868), brass hilt with elephant head pommel and with lion attacking the elephant’s trunk forming the knuckle bow, chiselled in relief with floral and foliate ornaments, in later fabric covered scabbard. Blade 70.5cms. Good condition.
