Civil War presentation cavalry officer`s sword, 1863 Civil War presentation cavalry officer`s sword, a fine example made by Clauberg, Solingen, Prussia, the elaborate bronze hilt having a relief cast of Lady Liberty and US insignia on each side of the grip, topped with a laurel wreath pommel, the pierced cross-guard continuing to the knuckle-bow, and decorated with an eagle fighting a snake, the blade engraved with U.S. and an American eagle, housed in a scabbard with bronze suspension rings, repousse mounts, and drag, and having an on oval plaque inscribed `Presented to Clement R. See, 1st Lieut Co. F. 2nd. Pa. Cavalry. 59th. Regt. Pa. Vols. March 24th. 1863, by the "Boys" of Co. F.` First Lieutenant Clement R. See of Philadelphia was promoted to captain in April 1864, wounded at St. Mary`s Church in June 24, 1864 and discharged September 1864 (Inside the Army of the Potomac, ed. J. Gregory Acken. p.476.) A Victorian court sword with slender Wilkinson & Co. etched blade with VR monogram, the gilt hilt with cast shell and phoenix heads, knuckle bow, with original pommel tassel and a plumed helmet pommel, gilt mounted leather scabbard, length 92cm. Condition Report: Surface rusting to the blade, also some chips to the blade. The leather scabbard is looking tired and the stitching is coming open. dent to the metal work at the end of the scabbard. The sword 'knot' is also a little perished.
A late 19th Century French ormolu and white marble pendule à circles de tournant, the movement with vertically positioned platform lever escapement striking hours and half hours on a bell, the case with two cherubs standing on a bow-fronted white marble plinth applied with ormolu foliate bands and bead mounts and holding aloft the clock encased in glass with lyre gallery and detachable dome surmount with foliate finial, height approx 45cm.
An oak mule chest, 18th century and later, with an arrangement of two drawers and five dummy drawers, around an inlaid cupboard door, 155cm wide 56cm deep 84cm high CONDITION REPORT: Polished and restored brass. Handles have been polished and areas of wood around have been bleached. A slight bow to the top hinged cover. No conversion.
After Jean-Antoine Haidon, a French bronze of Diana the Huntress, modelled standing on her left leg holding a long bow, on circular base, inscribed 'Houdon, Barbedienne Fondeur', and Reduction Mecanique stamp, 45cm high CONDITION REPORT: Patination good and even, her bow has some damage to lower 3/4, restoration to the leg.
A common carp, in a bow front case, mounted in a naturalistic setting with an aquamarine background, bears label for J Cooper & Sons, 28 Radnor Street, St Lukes, London, 78cm wide 20.5cm deep 41cm high CONDITION REPORT: Unsure whether the case has been opened. Some wear to the edges and back.
DON SOMMER REPRODUCTION PIERCE ARROW MASCOTDon Sommer reproduction 1931-1932 Pierce Arrow `Tireur d`Arc` car mascot. More than just an archer, he is literally a "Marskman of the Bow." Here, William Schnell has created an elegant linear interpretation of classical revival style. The body is presented quite realistically. Yet, zizag positioning creates a rhythmical stylization beyond classic Greco-Roman portrayal. Measures 6 5/8" height x 5 1/2" width x 6 3/8" depth (16.8cm x 13.9cm x 16.1cm).
