A 9 carat gold mounted oval cameo brooch bust of Athena or Diana, a quiver of arrows on her shoulder, a bow before her, 4.4 cm x 5.5 cm, a smaller cameo brooch of Selene or Luna, with two horse chariot, 2.6 cm x 2.3 cm and a 20th Century cameo bust portrait of a lady within a yellow metal mount, 5 cm x 3.7 cm CONDITION REPORTS The cameo of Diana - has two cracks within the shell running parallel to the line of her nose / forehead in the open area - see images. Otherwise condition with light wear to the gold conducive with age and use. Smaller cameo of Luna - condition appears good.Third cameo - later and lesser quality than the other two. A George III mahogany serpentine-fronted chest, the cross-banded top satinwood strung and with moulded edge over a fitted compartmentalised drawer with writing sufrace over three further long graduated drawers with brass swan-necked handles raised on bracket feet (96 cm W x 54 cm D x 84.5 cm H) CONDITION REPORTS Whilst basically sound, the piece has discolouration particularly to the top front left side. The top also has splits horizontally along the grain and some small areas of loss though the veneers appear to be in the drawer. There is also discolouration to the left hand side as the piece stood in a bedroom with a window facing this side. The right hand side has much better and more original colour though has a split vertically just behind the curved areat to the front pilaster. The front has again some discolouration to the left side and some areas of cracking to the banding and veneers that are loose or have come away and are in the top drawer. The right foot has a horizontal split visible along the front panel. The piece sits upon later modern castors. See image. The fitted drawer has replacement tooled and gilded writing surface and some splits along the grain to the writing surface. The interior sectional area is basic. The slightly bow fronted sliding cover may or may not be original. There is a key with the piece which fits and works - again, whether original is unknown. The other drawers all appear to work and are intact. See images for further details.
An 18th Century Bow chinoiserie design tea bowl and saucer, tea bowl 7.5 cm diameter, saucer 12.5 cm diameter CONDITION REPORTS Saucer - appears to be in good condition throughout with some minor firing faults to the glaze, particuarly to the underside. See image. Tea bowl - basically looks in good condition. Some wear to the enamel particularly to the bird which may or may not be part of the original design. Under UV light no damage or restoration can be seen.
A 19th Century mahogany bow fronted hanging corner cupboard of two doors, of small proportions, 38 cm wide x 54.5 cm high, together with a 1930's walnut cased two door display cabinet on cabriole legs, 130 cm high CONDITION REPORTS Corner cupboard only - there are splits throughout and one large predominant through the right hand door along with several on the mouldings. Knocks and bumps. An area of loss to the top right hand side of the cabinet. Possibly had replacement shelves or additional shelves added at some point. Lock mechanism working but the other catching side is not present. Wear and tear conducive with age and use including knocks, bumps and scrapes, etc. See images for more details.

A 17th century, Italian, Baroque style cassoneThe lid painted with a central cartouche enclosing a tree, flanked on each side by grotesque-like decoration, including masks, dolphins and foliate scrolls, the conforming sides with wrought iron carrying handles, the inverse breakfront painted with a panel depicting the vestal virgin Tuccia bringing a sieve of water to the temple, flanked on each side by a lion’s mask holding a fruiting pendant on carved mask feet.128cm wide x 53cm deep x 65.5cm highFootnote: Footnote:Tuccia was a priestess who was responsible for the eternal fire at the temple of Vesta in Rome. She was falsely accused of breaking her vow of chastity and to disprove this calumny she called on the gods to help her perform the miracle of carrying a sieve full of water to the temple. There is what appears to be the remnants of an old catalogue entry on the back of this cassone.Condition report: Later lock and strap hinges. Remains of original ring and staple hinges. Later sections, including 13cm (at its largest) x 82cm triangular section back right of top, plinth, back feet, constructional brackets and left front foot. 24cm x 6cm replaced on back of cassone to the left of the right hinge. Elements frassed, including around this patch. Evidence of old woodworm present. Right pendant lacking bow and left lacking left side of bow. Very chipped and cracked all over, including 9cm diagonal crack on the right of the painted panel. Overall distressed and with old restorations to paint work, as well as woodwork.

Itemised inspection certificates - dated 24th February, 16th and 23rd April and 7th May 2003 (report No 0254/03) by J & H Surveying Co Ltd, Marine Surveyors - number and detail the items exported. A copy is available at Cheffins’ offices. The shipment arrived in Felixstowe, UK on 29th May 2003 and was received for transhipment by Redfern International Logistics of Leeds, recorded in their sales invoice no. IDSI2926, which details fees paid for the appropriate Sea Import Customs and Sea Import Documentation. The dating of Chinese sculpture is notoriously difficult and all such references in this catalogue are based entirely upon style and should not be relied on as a statement of fact.
