A 19th century elm hall bench of cottage proportions, the shaped end supports united by a rail back and board seat, 72cm H x 68cm W x 29cm D, extensive historic worm (at fault)Condition reportExtensive historic worm throughout, with chips and losses to the rear of the seat, multiple gouges and marks along with a slight bow in the seat board. Some wear and losses at the feet of the two supports along with multiple minor splits. The joints and boards stress when sat on which would indicate the bench would acquire attention before being used as a seat, the bench is probably reduced from a longer bench, timbers appears to be period but are heavily stained.

Born: 8 July 1946. Died: 4 December 2021, aged 75 Christine Jennifer Clyne studied and trained in couture in London and Paris. She launched her first business, Buckle Under, with business partner and friend Viv Knowland in the early 1970s, creating clothes and accessories for London’s finest. After her marriage she lived in Edinburgh where she and her talented seamstresses had kitted out most of Scotland’s finest, numbering among her clientele members of the Scottish aristocracy and several internationally recognised stars of stage, screen and television, and not least Princess Diana , about whom she remained discreet.It was on her initiative that several unforgettable charity fundraising events were organised in Edinburgh in the late 1980s. She staged catwalk extravaganzas in the McEwen Hall, at Hopetoun House and Harburn House in West Lothian. There was the Oriental Ball in aid of the Children’s Cancer Fund at the Royal Museum of Scotland in 1989She relocated to London in 2017, lived in Gloucestershire and carried on with her couture costume and also interior design.The Cotswold Auction Company is delighted to be able to offer a small selection of her superb clothes at auction . S71503, conforming to the 'Improved Model 'D'' configuration of 1913-14, with tapering 19 1/4in. barrel marked on the top 'ARMY & NAVY CSL'D LONDON', dove-tailed fore-sight designed to take a folding ring sight (base only present), elevating notch rear-sight, loading tap at breech, blued air-chamber etched 'THE BSA STANDARD AIR RIFLE .22 BORE' bisected by the 'Piled Arms' trademark over 'THE BIRMINGHAM SMALL ARMS CO. LTD. ENGLAND' over 'SOLE MAKERS' (faded but legible), single hole trigger unit fitted with intercepting sear and adjuster mounted through the front of the trigger guard bow, walnut saw-handled butt-stock with flush folding peep-sight inlet to top of the grip (elevating screw replaced, some chipping to rear of inletting), ribbed heel, no provision for fore-end, side-catch under-lever with patent dates and a strong amount of finish remaining.
