A bronze brooch comprising a deep bow with median plaque and diaper-pattern enamel, openwork body with transverse axles and free-running blue and white glass beads, addorsed beast-head finials with inset glass eyes; hinged pin to the reverse and catchplate with hole for attachment of a chain or cord. 3rd-4th century AD. A bronze key with openwork palmette bow, square-section shank and bits; the lower bow with inlaid silver vineleaf and parcel-gilt band. Cf. Pall, M. A large silver-gilt radiate-headed bow brooch of Lombardic type with broad shallow bow, D-shaped headplate with heart-shaped scrolls and nine baluster-shaped radiating knobs to the outer edge supporting a median band; lozengiform footplate with low-relief Greek-key motifs, beast-head finial; raised borders with opposed triangle niello-filled punchmarks to the head- and footplate; to the reverse, an iron pin-mount set between the outer knobs of the headplate, deep catchplate. The bow-brooch with knops to the headplate is found in many cultural areas in western, central and eastern Europe at this time. A large bronze Baltic bow brooch of the 'ladder brooch' type of ogee profile; the headplate trapezoidal with lateral loops and lugs to attach the prominently placed spring, central recess with red enamel infill; the bow with transverse herringbone detail, wide transverse bar at the apex with herringbone pattern to the centre, keeled concave extension to a second similar transverse bar, flared footplate with central enamel-filled panel, ropework (?) detailing; large catchplate to the reverse. A SIRIONO INDIAN FOOT BOW. A large Foot Bow used by the Siriono Indians of Bolivia, who now number under 400 people. The leaf shaped 93" long bow was used by a native laid on his back, braced by his feet. Some light decoration to the pale wood leaves, each measuring roughly 42". Some distortion due to age, also some light damage evident.
