An impressive Victorian hallmarked silver four-piece tea set in the Gothic style, comprising coffee pot, height 34cm, teapot, height 26cm, sugar bowl, height 16.5cm and milk jug, height 15cm, height each piece of tall hexagonal shape, with urn finials, bell-shaped lids, straight and angular handles, Rococo-style spouts adorned with acanthus leaves, each panel decorated with floral scrolls and columns, the front panel with engraved crest of upright arm holding a cross, the lower panels with possible folklore scenes, to include a boy with bow and arrow, a mythical bird, a fox in woodland, on a hexagonal base, the sugar bowl and milk jug with gilt interiors, London 1844, with sponsor's mark 'J.A' over 'J.A', also marked 'J. Mayer Goldsmith, 68 Lord Street, Liverpool', combined approx 86.5ozt (4).Footnote: The teapot and coffee pot both have two ivory spacers to each handle. The ivory has been declared, with reference numbers 2A17YC5N for the coffee pot and JQ1NRL82 for the teapot. CONDITION REPORT: This has been looked after by the generations of the vendor's family. There are no obvious repairs or damage. The handle on the teapot is a little loose. There may be some slight indents, dimples and surface scratches, but the decoration hides most of these.

An 18ct gold lady's open-face pocket watch, probably French, stem wind and stem set, the case engraved throughout with flowers and scrolling foliage, marked inside the back 18K, the white enamel dial with Roman numerals and gold hands, to a fitted case for Oldfield's Ltd of Liverpool, together with a decorative yellow metal engraved bow-form brooch fob, watch weight 27g, fob weight 4g.Watch is generally good throughout with negligible signs of age and use. Movement winds, sets and runs - not tested or guaranteed. Bow fob is also in good condition.

Ex private European collection. Acquired by the current owner in 2001. This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate no.11326-189857. In the late Roman Empire, the children of Imperial officials and dignitaries, who were part of the Militia Armata and the unarmed Militia, acquired symbols and titles of the father, from whom they usually also inherited their profession. The quality and size of the fibula could link it to the son of a military commander, a vir illustris or vir nobilissimus, and therefore belonging to a puer illustris or nobilissimus. The seat rails have worm holes. Two chairs are stamped. The seat rails have new corner blocks. They have a good colour and patina with small knocks and scratches consistent with age.
