The enamelled dial with Roman numerals, case with braided and enamelled decoration and enamel insets to bow. The back of the watch engraved with cockerel and early farm implements, case diameter 53mm, in London jeweller's box.

A bronze cruciform bow brooch with rectangular headplate, shallow bow and beast-head finial; the headplate with incised vertical lines and horseshoe stamps, one lateral waisted knop and another above (possibly a later addition); the bow with chamfered ends, two D-shaped lappets, horse-head finial with raised scaphoid eyes; remains of ferrous pin and catchplate to the reverse. 56 grams, 13cm (5"). A bronze brooch comprising a rectangular plate with high-relief rosette and scrolled tendril decoration within a bifid border, projecting catchplate below, sprung pin to the reverse. 26 grams, 48mm (2"). From a private collection; formed 1965-1975. The brooch is unusual in that its main decorative feature is a rectangular plaque similar to contemporary varieties of plate brooch. However, the sprung pin is more usually associated with certain types of bow brooch (e.g. the knee-brooch and trumpet types"). . Fine condition. Rare.

A mixed bronze group comprising: a Roman plate brooch of an eagle with textured wing and open beak; two Anglo-Saxon or Frankish ansate brooches with ribs below the bow; a Frankish caterpillar brooch; a belt mount with ribbed face, two studs to the reverse. 4th century AD.A gold bow brooch with large kidney-shaped bow with central rib engraved with S-pattern; the knops trimmed with beading; wide cross bar below which runs a bar inscribed VTERE FELIX, framed with pelta loops. For a similar example see The British Museum accession number 1962,1205.1. 38.61 grams, 75mm (3"). Very fine condition. Very rare.From the important collection of Christian artefacts formed by a London gentleman, 1970s-1980s.Accompanied by a positive X-Ray Fluorescence metal analysis certificate.This type of fibula, used to fasten a cloak around the neck, became part of the standard insignia of military personnel during the third century A.D. This example is inscribed in Latin: VTERE FELIX, meaning 'use happily'. The expression utere felix is the second most common inscriptional formula on items from the Roman Empire, and is used to wish good luck, well-being and joy. The brooch would have been made at an imperial workshop and presented as a gift to a senior member of the imperial staff.
19th century AD. A group of silver amulets comprising: head of Mercury with wings to the top of the head, two double-headed axes to the side and a scrolling plant motif below; a hand making the cornuto sign, holding a key with snake coiled down the centre, horse to one side and man holding bow to the other side; a hand making the cornuto sign, holding a coiled snake with horse to the front and dog to its back; a key with scrolled head; a running dog. Cf. Berry, V. Neopolitan Charms Against the Evil Eye, in Folklore, Vol. 79, no. 4 (Winter 1968), pp. 250–56. 15 grams total, 29-45mm (1 1/4 - 1 3/4"). English private collection; acquired in the 1970s. In South Italy there is still a strong belief in the powers of the Evil Eye, or malocchio, and amulets have been made since Roman times to ward off the negative powers. During the 18th and 19th centuries silver amulets were made in the region of Naples to protect against the powers of stregha, or witches. In Italy it was believed that children are especially weak against the forces of the Evil Eye. The high infant mortality rate was more likely due to poor hygiene and diet, but it was attributed to the Evil Eye being cast on them by a jettatore. Jettatore is an Italian word of Neopolitan origin, and was used to refer to one who has the powers of the Evil Eye. [5, No Reserve]. Fine condition.

A large bronze bow brooch of Aesica type with lozengiform bow and trapezoidal foot; the headplate a transverse bar with pierced lug to the reverse, humped bow with median ridge pierced to accept the spring and lateral spurs with knop finials connecting within a radiating ring, knop finials to the bow and footplate, raised La Tène style motifs; catch to the reverse. Cf. Hattatt, R. Iron Age and Roman Brooches, Oxford, 1985, item 800. 44 grams, 47mm (2"). Found East Anglia, UK; before 2000. . Fine condition, pin absent.
