A FRENCH GILT-BRONZE MOUNTED SEVRES STYLE PORCELAIN MANTEL CLOCKLate 19th CenturyWith a winged Cupid mounted above the dial, painted with an amorous couple and Roman hours, the side panels with musical trophies, the twin train movement by Japy Freres, stamped with medallion and serial number 937, pendulum and key, 31cm highCondition report: The case: rubbing to the gilding of the mounts with some oxidisation, tarnishing, dirt and dust. Cover to the movement is missing and replaced with a cut out brass example which is screwed in. The Cupid figure is a little loose as is his quiver and bow. The dial: Rubbing to some of the gilding on the porcelain, especially around the minute marks to the outer ring. The movement: this will need to be checked by a clock specialist. AN 18TH CENTURY HEPPLEWHITE STYLE WINDOW SEATWith double bow studded leather upholstered seat on channelled mahogany supports, 120cm wide; 48cm highCondition report: The overall depth is 39.5cm. The leather covering is very worn with more tears towards one end. Missing patera to the side corner block. The frame with the inevitable and numerous scuffs, dents and marks commensurate with considereable wear, use and age. Some small losses to edges and corners. The legs with unexplained plug marks towards the top, see additional images. The mahogany is also quite faded. Duverdrey & Bloquel, a brass carriage clock: the eight-day duration movement having a silvered platform lever escapement and striking the hours and half-hours on a gong with a push button repeat sounding the last hour at will, and with alarm, the backplate numbered 792 and with a hand setting arrow as used by the makers Duverdrey & Bloquel of Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont, the cream dial having a silvered mask and with black Roman numerals, outer five-minute numerals and decorative blued steel hands, with a subsidiary alarm setting dial, the bow-sided case with swing handle, height 18.5 cm handle up, 15.5cm handle down.* Biography Albert Villon set-up his first carriage clock making workshops in Saint-Nicolas-d'Aliermont in 1867 and by 1889 professed to be making some 20,000 carriage clocks per year. In 1887 Paul Duverdrey joined Villon as a director who in turn was joined by Joseph Bloquel after the death of Villon in 1910, the business becoming Duverdrey & Bloquel.The firm later became the alarm clock making concern Bayard.
A 19th Century mahogany and inlaid bow fronted sideboard:, crossbanded in satinwood, bordered with boxwood lines, having a brass gallery rail with curtain, fitted with a central frieze and recessed arched apron drawer, flanked by an enclosed cupboard and cellarette drawer, on square tapered legs, terminating in spade feet, 183cm (6ft) long, 66cm (2ft 2in) deep, 94.5cm (3ft 1 1/4in) high.*Notes Provenance. A George IV gentleman's mahogany and inlaid bow-fronted dressing chest:, bordered with boxwood lines, the hinged top with a moulded edge enclosing an interior with various apertures and central adjustable rachetted mirror, having a central faux frieze drawer with drawer below fitted with a pearlware blue and white willow pattern basin, two drawers under and flanked by four small drawers to either side, on bracket feet and castors, 105cm(3ft 5 1/4in) wide, 61cm (2ft) deep.*Notes Provenance. A Victorian walnut and inlaid bow-fronted Davenport:, crossbanded and bordered with boxwood lines, the superstructure with ebonised ground panels with leaf decoration, having a lidded fitted compartment with brass baluster three quarter gallery, a sloping tooled leather inset hinged writing surface enclosing a maple lined interior with two small drawers, containing four short drawers to the side, on a plinth base with bun feet and castors, 55cm (1ft 9 3/4in) wide.
