1948 LETTERS. A collection of letters written during 1948 from Sven Berlin to Jacque Moran, during Jacque's time as a patient at Rosehill Sanatorium, Penzance. One letter describes meeting up with Terry Frost in St. Ives - '....his excitement about paint and about people is always a good tonic. He will be an important artist: of that I am sure....'; other letters from a trip to Brighton, Reading & London describe visits to publishers & galleries trying to get work accepted; in another letter he writes of David Cox, the Secretary of The St. Ives Society and his approach to work & life in general - '....he had on a black and white checked coat, an Indian red shirt, green bow tie. His face is quite brown now and his hair longer than ever....Clohe once told me that she thought he would break away and go wild....'; another letter refers to D.H. Lawrence's letters about Cornwall, & a meeting with Viv in the Castle (pub) when he 'told her how we plan to get married as soon as I can shift the divorce thro....I suppose most people get bored with me because I am talking all the time about my sweetheart....'  Please note that all items in this auction are previously owned & are offered on behalf of private vendors. Odd thunder fly/debris trapped under glass. Some likely general staining to sheet although colour depth and brightness of colours present remain fairly good. Some general surface dirt/scuff although some of the graphite shading? seemingly by execution. Executed on a paper with a degree of seemingly encapsulated fibres, see upper left-hand corner for tiny brown coloured integral fibre for example. Slight bow to sheet evident to right-hand side edge and corner possibly a result of historical moisture. Not examined out of the frame.
