The base having a deep drawer to the top opening to reveal a fully appointed bureau section with a further bank of three drawers below all with large turned handles. All raised on a bracket feet. Measures approx. 202cm x 108cm x 55cm.

This chest and other furniture in the auction part of the Olive Knox Will Trust who was married to Alfred Dillwyn Knox, a historic figure in the history of codebreaking at Bletchley Park. Measures approx.104 x 104 x 45cm.BIO: Alfred Dillwyn (Dilly) Knox (23 July 1884 - 27 February 1943) was a British classics scholar, papyrologist and codebreaker. During WWI he worked at the Navy's Room 40 codebreaking unit, where he helped decrypt the Zimmermann Telegram, which brought the US into World War I [1]. During World War II (WWII) he ran his own codebreaking operation — Intelligence Service Knox (ISK) — at Bletchley Park, where he was successful in breaking the Enigma cipher of the Abwehr. Also documented to have encouraged Alan Turing to develop the Bombe machine which was to become the main tool for breaking Enigma keys during WW2.

A Regency oval inlaid mahogany and marquetry wine cooler, the oval crossbanded top with central fan patera and husk inlay to the outer edge, above a four panel body with husk and ribbon and bow inlay and a strung base, raised on square tapering legs with blind fret husk carvings terminating with spade feet, the interior has been adapted to hold a bottle/glass stand, 24 x 18in. (60.9 x 45.7cm.), 26¼in. (66.6cm.) high. * Condition: Small losses of veneer and some splits around the base, mostly near the legs, the interior has been altered to accept a glass/bottle tray which has pierced the interior liner.
An extremely rare life-size antique Chinese polychrome wood figure of Buddha Shakyamuni, sculptured seated, portrayed with a sensuous face with slender bow-shaped eyes, below well-defined arched eyebrows flanking a central recess for an urna, the head with neatly arranged rows of ringlet curls and a pair of long pendulous earlobes, crossed legged wearing long flowing robes, the reverse of torso with rectangular aperture, traces of original and later polychrome pigments and paint, 28in. (71cm.) knee to knee and sitting 38in. (96.5cm.) tall. (some losses) * Condition: Later painted, over original pigment, some curls to hair broken off and missing, middle finger on right snapped off but present, some shrinkage etc.
