An impressive late Victorian inlaid mahogany wardrobe, with two arched crests and dentil cornice above a central mirrored door enclosing shelves, two press trays and four drawers, flanked by two bow front wardrobe doors inlaid with hanging foliate pendants in partridge wood and other specimen woods, on plinth base, 217cm H x 236cm W x 58cm D
5th-1st century BC. A lozenge-section silver bow with trapezoidal catchplate, flared terminal with hinged square-section pin; the lower ends of the bow with circumferential ribbing, upper faces of the bow and catchplate with tremolier hatching. Cf. Hattatt, R. Ancient and Romano-British Brooches, Sherborne, 1982, item 199; Beck, H. et al. Fibel und Fibeltracht, Berlin, 2000, item 13. 3.56 grams, 41mm (1 3/4"). UK art market, acquired prior to 2000. The brooch belongs to the Hallstatt tradition of arched bow brooches, but it features a hinge rather than the more usual coiled spring. Fine condition.
3rd-13th century AD. A mixed bronze group comprising: a triangular pendant with radiating lugs and enamel fill; a piriform pendant with enamel fill; a bow-shaped rod with mounting rings; a cross pendant with enamel fill; a petal-shaped ribbed plaque with gilt detailing. 23 grams total, 20-70mm (3/4 - 2 3/4"). Property of a gentleman; acquired before 1990. [5, No Reserve] Mainly fine condition.
