The cavity on top of the head (sara) is inlaid in mother-of-pearl. The himotoshi in the back is florally rimmed, the other hole found underneath. The details are very finely carved. Himotoshi through the carapace in the back and signed underneath the right leg JUGYOKU.HEIGHT 3.3 cmCondition: Very good condition. The two arms are carved separately to hold the cucumber in place.Provenance: US private collection.Jugyoku was particularly skilled in combining various materials, the kappa holding a green-stained cucumber being one of his favored subjects. The present netsuke depicts this kappa in a particularly amusing and rather unique manner, holding his cucumber like an instrument.According to folklore there are two ways to escape a kappa-encounter unharmed. One is to feed it with a cucumber, which is the kappa's favorite food and the other is to bow, as kappa are exceedingly polite creatures and find it difficult to resist returning a bow. One of the arrows originally came from the production's property master.Made of metal and wood, the black hunting bow consists of two limbs, a grip section and one cable. The hero arrow comprises a wooden shaft with white-and-brown feather fletching and a white nock. Completing the lot is a stunt rubber arrow featuring a rubber tip and identical fletching. Remnants of stage blood are present on the stunt arrow's feathers, and the lot is accompanied by two Platinum Dunes certificates of authenticity. GHOSTBUSTERS II (1989) - Screen-matched Titanic Model MiniatureA screen-matched model miniature of the R.M.S. Titanic from Ivan Reitman's supernatural comedy sequel Ghostbusters II. The Titanic and its ghostly passengers appeared at the New York docks after the evil slime under the streets of the city began to cause widespread chaos. The model matches the one seen on screen, identified by the holes and markings toward the front.Built for the production by the artists at Industrial Light & Magic, the miniature is of the bow section of the ship and is predominantly resin sheet mounted over a wooden frame, with carved biscuit foam inside for shape and stability. The ship is intentionally distressed to look like it has been at the bottom of the Atlantic for decades, with a large gaping hole on the right side. There are a couple of small lights and some clear perspex rods on the deck through which light would have emanated, giving a ghostly glow, although these are no longer functional.The ship has some wear from age and use, and several of the resin panels and railings are no longer present on the sides of the ship.
