Of Churchill interest; a scratch built painted wooden model of the New York built steam yacht 'Namouna', owned by James Gordon Bennett, 69cm long Footnote: This model formed part of the furnishings of the Churchill Suite at The Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo, the room furnished in such a way as to evoke Sir Winston's character. In 2015 the hotel underwent major refurbishment, which resulted in them selling a large part of the contents, including this model boat, at auction. A frequent guest at the Hotel de Paris from 1945 onwards, Sir Winston spent his winters in Monte Carlo, initially occupying an apartment on the 4th floor of the Rotunda before it was raised four floors. In the early 1960s, invited by Aristotle Onassis, he stayed in a luxury apartment on the 8th and the most recently completed floor, next to the restaurant 'Le Grill'. From that time on the apartment was known as the Churchill Suite. Provenance: Hotel de Paris Sale, Artcurial, Monte Carlo, 25th January 2015, lot 9 (related ephemera included) String representing mezzanine guard railings has snapped/deteriorated in places, some of the wire deck pylons are misshapen, potentially missing port and starboard lifeboards amidships (if ever present), rigging not taught throughout but generally good. No case. 74 cm bow to stern (including bowsprit). Ex lot 664, Bellmans, 2001
