A Victorian 'Head Fiddle' & Bow, attributed to Frenchman Honore Derazey, this violin produced in approximately 1860 shows, the carved head of Gasparo Duiffopruggar (1514 - 1571) who invented the violin. on the reverse is a carved marquetry scene of Bologna Italy where Duffopruiger had his violin shop. Latin words are incised around the outer edges as in "Viva FVI-IVI Sylvis Deo VI Mort VA - DVL Ce which translates to 'I used to be alive - I come from the woods - by the power of God I died sweetly'. An article in the Antique Trader in 2014 by Steve Evans of The Jacksonville Violin Museum valued this model at 1500 dollars - (note some later repair to neck).
