A Regency oval inlaid mahogany and marquetry wine cooler, the oval crossbanded top with central fan patera and husk inlay to the outer edge, above a four panel body with husk and ribbon and bow inlay and a strung base, raised on square tapering legs with blind fret husk carvings terminating with spade feet, the interior has been adapted to hold a bottle/glass stand, 24 x 18in. (60.9 x 45.7cm.), 26¼in. (66.6cm.) high. * Condition: Small losses of veneer and some splits around the base, mostly near the legs, the interior has been altered to accept a glass/bottle tray which has pierced the interior liner.

An extremely rare life-size antique Chinese polychrome wood figure of Buddha Shakyamuni, sculptured seated, portrayed with a sensuous face with slender bow-shaped eyes, below well-defined arched eyebrows flanking a central recess for an urna, the head with neatly arranged rows of ringlet curls and a pair of long pendulous earlobes, crossed legged wearing long flowing robes, the reverse of torso with rectangular aperture, traces of original and later polychrome pigments and paint, 28in. (71cm.) knee to knee and sitting 38in. (96.5cm.) tall. (some losses) * Condition: Later painted, over original pigment, some curls to hair broken off and missing, middle finger on right snapped off but present, some shrinkage etc.

The Beatles were due to perform in Portsmouth and then come to Ryde to visit Paul's relation, who had arranged for the vendor, then a schoolgirl, to meet the group the following morning. However, plans changed and the Beatles went straight back to London. The vendor then received the signed card offered here. The Beatles played at the Savoy Ballroom, Southsea, Portsmouth on 7th April and it could well have been this concert referred to in the provenance: the next day they had a packed schedule back in London with a radio and TV appearance and concert. A GEORGE III GOLD QUARTER REPEATING POCKET WATCH, JOHN HOLMES, LONDON, CIRCA 1818 full plate fusee movement with diamond endstone, push pendant activating two hammers on a gong, cuvette with winding aperture and signed 'John Holmes / Strand / LONDON / No.725', matted dial with raised Roman numerals within dot minute markers and serpentine hands, engine-turned case with bold foliate band, pendant and bow, 18 carat gold London hallmarks probably for Horace Gooch, 1818, 5cm diameter; together with a gilt-metal watch chain, terminating in a probably contemporary gold-cased suspension ring and key (for the hands) and an associated winding key (2)Following his death in 1797, the business of the celebrated clock- and watch-maker, John Holmes, was apparently continued by his son William at 156 Strand, until its purchase by George Yonge in 1816. Helfricht A Zella, Mid-19th Century With swamped finely twist octagonal sighted barrel engraved around the muzzle and rifled with eight spiral grooves, the top flat forward of the breech signed in gold capitals within silver-inlaid line borders between silver-inlaid foliate scrollwork inhabited by an engraved gold-inlaid bird on either side, gold and silver lines at the breech and with gold-inlaid chamois in an engraved mountainous landscape between the silver-inlaid bolsters, broad tang-plate engraved with foliate scrolls involving two monster-heads and framing a gold-inlaid stag and hind in a landscape, border engraved flat lock decorated en suite and inhabited by gold-inlaid cavalrymen on silver-inlaid horses in differing landscapes, dolphin hammer with gold-inlaid eyes and the figure of a knight, the latter amid scrolling foliage, the plate opposite the lock decorated with two cavalrymen in a similar fashion to the lock, figured half-stock carved with scrolling foliage in bas-relief against a stippled ground en suite with the tang plate at the grip and ramrod-entry, the latter carved as a monster-head with dark horn and mother-of-pearl eyes, butt carved in relief behind the cheek-piece with a stag hunting scene in a landscape, and sliding chequered patch-box cover with staghorn release button within a triangular border of carved scrolling foliage terminating in monster's heads and inhabited by two birds, surmounted by a stylised cross and all against a stippled ground, steel butt-plate with gold-inlaid prone stag in a glade on the heel of the foliate scroll engraved tang, scrolled white-metal trigger-guard engraved en suite and inset on the bow with a steel plaque chiselled with a sportsman in a landscape against a gilt ground, trigger-plate with foliate finial inlaid in gold with an owl, adjustable set triggers, white-metal barrel-bolt escutcheons, dark horn fore-end cap, sling mounts, and original white-metal mounted ramrod 73.5 cm. barrel For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com
