Mid 19th-late 17th century BC. A carved serpentine Old Syrian cylinder seal with worshipping scene; the worshipper a standing man with a head of hair in a long flounced robe, holding in the hand of his right bent arm a short staff or writing tube faces left the goddess of rain and fertility, pictured here as a naked woman, standing on a bull and framed by a winged bow in the form of a ribbon with drops on the outside (paw band); through the wings and the drops the curved band symbolises the rainbow as a symbol for water and thus for fertility; beneath between the bull's front and the worshipper a cylinder-symbol, between him and the bull's backside are a kneeling horse, three rosettes as a symbol for the solar disk, the ankh sign as a symbol for 'life' and for the life's element water, and a bird as another symbol of fertility; accompanied by a museum-quality impression. Later 5th century AD. A parcel-gilt silver radiate-headed bow brooch comprising: a D-shaped headplate with recess and raised scroll motifs, seven radiating knops with inset garnet cabochons, the outer ones with bird-head detailing, raised band to the border with punched triangles; deep bow of stepped profile with band of punched triangles; lozengiform footplate with pairs of lateral profile bird-heads with inset garnet cabochons and raised scrolls to the panel, beast-head finial with inset garnet cabochons; pierced lugs and catch to the reverse. A silver-gilt bow brooch with D-shaped headplate, baluster knops and lateral bird heads all with inset garnet cabochons, deep bow with ribs, lozenge footplate with lateral bird-head lappets and cabochon eyes, central lozenge carnelian(?) surrounded by a band of tendrils, beast-head finial with scooped nostrils and cabochon eyes; pin-lugs to the reverse and catchplate below.
