A near pair of German silver gilt two-masted Nefs, early 20th century, by L. Neresheimer & Co. of Hanau, with import marks for London 1912, importer's mark of Berthold Hermann Muller of Wardour St., the hulls with timbered planking and foliate scroll decoration to the bow, stowed anchors to starboard side, one with a lion's head spout, the other a female figurehead, the decks with chased foliate scrollwork and shells to the cabin astern, mounted with armed figures, cannons and ship's wheels, the rigging with climbing figures, billowing sails, decorative crow's nests, flags and hanging lanterns, on four pierced scroll wheels on dolphin supports, length 13¼in. (33.7cm.), height approx. 16in. (40.5cm.), total weight 83 tr.oz. (2)* Condition: Possibly later gilding. Both in good condition overall, with very little wear to gilding and some tarnishing to sails. Both bowsprits are bent and one probably repaired to tip. Import marks clear to both - to stern on one nef, to upper hull on the other. Maker's marks to upper hull on one nef, which are a little worn but remain legible. Crisp maker's marks to axle on the other nef.
An Edwards & Roberts fiddleback mahogany and marquetry desk, of bowed breakfront outline, banded in satinwood and decorated with ribbon tied husk garlands and foliate sprays, the galleried superstructure with a central raised shelf flanked by curved lidded compartments, each fitted with a drawer and decorated with oval panels of cherubs, over a central kneehole drawer flanked by two banks of three bow-fronted graduated drawers, raised on square tapered legs with spade feet, 48 x 23¾in. (122 x 60.25cm.), 36½in. (92.75cm.) high, the centre drawer stamped 'Edwards & Roberts', some losses.
A set of twelve Chinese sancai glazed figures of warriors, Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), the biscuit and partially glazed warriors modelled as foot soldiers wearing armoured tunics, partly enamelled in green and ochre on canted square bases, two holding circular shields, two holding beaters, five holding spears, one holding a bow, one holding a sword, the last holding a pair uli form throwing clubs, their unglazed detachable heads modelled with plumed helmets, some with traces of red staining, 9½in. (24cm.) high. (12)
